When we realised that this hotel was actually 40 odd km from Cazorla, up the narrowest windiest road ever, my heart sank. I was actually about to turn around and go back to the Parador, however I am SO glad we didn't! The hotel is an old coaching inn on the side of the road, with some covered parking opposite. It has a nice old-fashioned reception area, with a big fireplace and really welcoming staff! There is a bar and a restaurant, a terrace and a lovely pool area.||The room was small and perhaps a little tired, but it had everything we needed - fridge, storage, tv, and nice bed - and the bathroom was absolutely fine.||It is perfectly located for walking in the Cazorla National Park ( although don't try the 7 hour one that we did - it took 9 hrs! ) and for all the other activities available there.||However, the nicest thing about this hotel is the people - the family that run it are so friendly, putting up with our dodgy Spanish, and trying their hardest to make us feel as welcome as possible.||The food there was also a highlight of the stay - the first night we just had the raciones from the bar - queso ovejo and surtido de embutidos - fabulous local food. The next night after the walk from hell, we had the full works - and the steaks were the best we have eaten in years. And the jug of local red wine at 3.50 euros(!) was amazing value!||Breakfast was tosados with jam or olive oil, great coffee and freshly squeezed juice, although there were also eggs should you have wanted them.||The cost of the room, including breakfast, was 40 euros! ||And for a side show - we were visited in the car park by two friendly-ish wild boars!||We loved the feel of this place, and we...
Read moreHaving booked this place for its location rather than any other reason we left Granada in slight trepidation as booking blind can be somewhat of a gamble.||||When we arrived the place was quiet with maybe three other people in the lounge and the village looking pretty sleepy on account of the heavy rainfall. When we booked in it was obvious that we would have to stretch our spoken Spanish and powers of gesticulation. The young couple running the place (with small daughter) were great making sure we knew what was where and making us a simple but nourishing supper, good red wine and friendly advice with local area maps etc.||||The room had a good view 216 I think, comfortable and quiet, easy to park and plenty of small bars/restaurants close by, again with friendly staff. We originally intended to stay for two nights only but extended it to three in the hope the weather would improve, we were not disappointed. The sun shone and we enjoyed part driving into the Sierras and stopping to get out and walk. Now that. Have the lie of the land it would be easy to plan a few days walking without killing ourselves.||||Good roads and access, some interesting nature especially alongside the old rail tracks, fig trees yielding free fruit and beautiful views every where.||||Obviously having a good base is important and we found our rural hotel to be excellent, top marks to them and the village, interested and jovial...
Read moreWe stayed at the Rural Mirasierra for 6 nights.||||The hotel is extremely cheap and to be honest we were a bit anxious that the quality of the hotel would match the price. But compared to the price this was pure luxery!||||The room was nice and clean and most of the hotel was quite well-renovated. The bathroom was a bit small and had no venting. Apart from that it had everything you need including a bathtub.||||Our room had to seperat beds that were both big and comfortable. The room was equipped with a nice balcony with mountain view.||||The entire hotel including our room has tile floors which made it quite noisy whenever someone walked around in the halls. ||||Included in the price was a nice continental breakfast with tea/coffee, juice, bread, a selection of sausages, youghurt, fresh fruit etc.||||On the downside the staff at the hotel hardly speaks any English which makes the communication a little difficult if you dont Spanish. However it wasn't a huge problem - we managed to get by with a few Spanish gloses.||||Also it was quite difficult to park next to the hotel, but we found a parking lot a few houndred meters away.||||The hotel is well situated for hiking and trips into the Sierra Nevada. Quite a few hiking routes can be reached from the city itself and also the bus connections to...
