We stayed at Hotel RH Bayren & Spa for five nights in July 2021. The hotel, being on Gandia’s beachfront, is in an excellent location. Despite staying in a Bay room, we had a lovely sea view. We also spent a day at UNIQ (the highest floor of the hotel and with an infinity pool); the view was equally gorgeous. Most of the bar, lobby and restaurant staff were attentive and very friendly. The evening animation was impressive.
Unfortunately, the hotel has many problems. Firstly, upon arrival, we were received by a very hostile Reception team. This hostility remained for the duration of our stay. We were not provided with any of the usual information that you would expect to receive when you arrive at a hotel. We had to discover everything as we went along. Additionally, even though I informed the Reception team, on the first day, that the safe in our room was not working, and was, resultantly, informed that it would be fixed the same day, the safe was never fixed. Furthermore, despite being able to speak Spanish, it was very difficult for me to ask the Reception team any questions. On at least five occasions, when in the queue, individual members of staff finished serving those in front of us, and although they, then, made eye-contact with me, they went to the back and did not return for several minutes.
Secondly, since the vast majority of those staying at the hotel were Hispanic, some members of staff, overtly, interacted with us (arriving from England), with considerably less enthusiasm.
Thirdly, when booking our stay, I was informed that our room would be ready by 11am on the day of our arrival. When we arrived at the hotel at 12.15pm, we were informed that the room would not be ready until 4pm. Though this, in itself, was not an issue, a member of the Reception team took my mobile number, informing me that I would receive a phone call (around 4pm) when the room was ready. Sadly, I never received this call, and I had to return and ask about the room around 5pm.
Fourthly, our room was extremely dirty (this, irrespective of the pandemic). For example, there was hair all over the floor, multiple stains on the bed frame, mould in the bathroom and large amounts of dust on the furniture. I spent an hour cleaning the room. Likewise, the room was never cleaned. It was simply tidied up to appear neat on the surface. Moreover, towels and bed sheets were never changed, and the bin was never emptied.
Finally, the food was appalling. On one occasion, the chicken was still raw (after being cooked), on another, the rice was severely undercooked. The selection of food was also poor. There were hardly any vegetarian dishes, and no vegetarian and vegan sections. On each of the five dinners that we had, pork was cooked with, and placed in the same serving dish as the beef, lamb or chicken, rendering it impossible for those who do not eat pig to eat any meat. The dining room staff worked inefficiently too. We had to, repeatedly, ask for missing items, e.g., cutlery, drinking glasses and placemats. It would be in the hotel managers’ best interests to rectify these problems. Overall, we would not recommend Hotel RH...

Read moreWe had an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel and left with big smiles (and probably a few extra pounds from all the amazing food). Everything was spot-on — from the spotless, comfy room to the sparkling clean pool. The staff were wonderfully attentive, and the food was excellent every single day. The maids who looked after our room deserve a raise, and the pool guy might just be the hardest working person we’ve ever seen — always zooming around fixing things, finding spare sunbeds, and magically producing umbrellas during the busy hours.||The beach was spotless, and the short stroll to get there was an absolute joy. We loved that the place had a real Spanish holiday vibe — lots of local families and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The cocktails at the pool bar were a highlight: tasty, generous, and at around €10 each, not too bad for hotel prices.||It was high season, so yes, sometimes finding a pool chair was a bit of a sport, but the pool guy’s speed made it almost entertaining. The only minor downside was that the internet could be a tad sluggish — but honestly, we weren’t here to stream movies; we were too busy enjoying ourselves.||This isn’t the cheapest hotel, but the quality, service, and atmosphere make it worth every euro. We’re already planning our...
