Hotel Begoña Playa — Hotel in Gijón

Keep in mind that this is a 2 star hotel so I think it's important to keep expectations low. That said, it was a great hotel. You can't beat the location. The hotel overlooks a plaza/park and is very close to the water and the rest of the sights. The rooms didn't have carpet which I'm sure helped keep it clean. We had a double room but 2 single beds. It didn't bother us because our only window faced the beach. They had minimal furniture and the bathroom was large and clean as well. I was told that it would be noisy from the people out having a good time but it was quiet - except that when our neighbors across the hall opened their room, it felt like they were coming into our room. We were also concerned about being next to the elevator but didn't hear noise. I didn't have a hair dryer but the front desk clerk was able to provide me with one. One major downside - the door locks. If you want to lock your door at night, you have to use the key on the inside. It's not a self-locking door. This made me wonder what would happen in case of a fire. Another downside.... our friend who had another room had mold on the ceiling. La madrugada del 6 de julio, sobre las 2 am, encontrándonos en un evento en Gijón, decidimos buscar por Booking un alojamiento cercano y encontramos este hotel por 77,40€ las noche. Seleccioné el día 6 (ya que eran más de las 00:00 del 5 y por lo tanto no tenía la opción de reservar la noche del 5) y aceptaron nuestra reserva. Sobre las 3:30 de la mañana del día 6 de julio, nos dirigimos al Hotel Begoña Playa, y el recepcionista del establecimiento nos informa de que no podemos alojarnos con la reserva que tenemos hecha, ya que el check-in solo puede realizarse a partir de las 14 pm. Nos comunica que tiene la habitación libre, pero que para acceder, debemos pagar otros 77€ (nos rebaja 40 céntimos) y cancelar la reseva por Booking. Ya que la cancelación no es gratutita y perdemos los 77€ que ya pagamos, no nos parece justo pagar 154€ por esa noche, e intentamos negociar otra opción, como que indique a Booking que nos devuelvan los 77€ para poder realizar una nueva reserva o que nos deje subir a dormir ya que no estaremos la noche del 6 al 7. Repite una y otra vez que la única opción es que pagemos de nuevo. Pedimos una hoja de reclamaciones. Nos la niega porque no somos clientes del hotel hasta las 14pm. Decidimos llamar a la policía para poner la reclamación. Llega la Policía Local y da la razón al establecimiento y nos dicen que si a alguien tenemos que reclamar es a Booking. Salimos del hotel resignados a perder 77€ y no poder dormir y cogemos el coche que tenemos a la puerta del hotel para dirigirnos a casa, a unos 30km. La policía que aún estaba en el establecimiento nos ve pasar con el coche y le pide a mi pareja que se baje del coche, que cómo se le ocurre cogerlo "en su estado". Le registran, le hacen una prueba de alcoholemia, da positivo, le llevan a la dependencias policiales, allí da 0,33, alcoholemia administrativa = 600€ de multa, 6 puntos de carné, 115€ por retirar el coche de la grúa a la hora, cuando dio por debajo de 0,25 y el taxi hasta la grúa. We loved the location of Begona Playa - very well located and with a small view of the sea from our window. It is about a 20 minute walk to the bus station from where you can visit some very interesting places such as Oviedo. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in their cafe was brilliant for breakfast and good value and you would always be greeted with a smile - I recommend the Churro's and chocolate.
