Lovely accommodation but definitely has room for improvement and not sure it is fully worth the price.
The complex and accommodation is lovely, we stayed in a deluxe holiday home that has changed the way I want to holiday in the future. Having your own private pool with cooking facilities is definitely a selling point for me now. However, this place definitely has room for improvement and if it didn't cost as much as it did, I would not be as bothered.
Firstly, the day time staff (reception) are not as welcoming as the night staff that were there during our stay. We found the day staff quite patronising and unhelpful, a bit like they didn't want to help. We also enquired about a late check out and the receptionist basically told us that an extra 5 minutes for us was a whole day for them. I understand late check out means the house can't be cleaned until later on but as our house was not exactly clean to the standard I expected, I found that comment a bit cheeky. We also arrived at 10pm and I'm sure plenty of other guest arrive late so late check out can't be that much of a hassle to receive such a comment.
There are few reviews mentioning the beach club and not being able to get into it, I would also agree with this, although we did not particularly want to use the beach club, we actually wanted to use the splash zone for kids and were told we couldn't go there as the beach club is full. Very annoying as we had a 2.5 year old who would make use of it and had no desire to use the beach club facilities as we had our own pool! One kind worker actually allowed us to use just the splash zone as long as we did not use the other facilities. The worst part is when we got to the splash zone it was empty, so you have a whole zone dedicated and sold as a family area but in order to use it you have to book sunbeds for the beach club - a complete waste in my opinion and a shame that it is a selling point for some yet usage is limited massively.
In terms of the rooms, on first impressions the house seems clean but the floors hadn't been moped (my socks were dirty within minutes) and some areas were still a bit dirty, particularly around the beds. The cleaners were lovely but can't quite understand why the floors were not moped before we checked in. One morning one of the cleaners even got her mop bucket out so I assumed she was mopping the floors but she didn't. We found the beds to be quite uncomfortable - very hard and disappointed that the main bedroom beds were just two singles pushed together and easily separated. Also, as lovely as the pool is, the fencing makes it a little less private as you can quite easily see through the gaps into the neighbouring gardens but this is very minor.
The house already had a highchair and cot set up, as well as washing up liquid, a dishwasher tablet and a detergent pod and bottled water, which was a nice touch. It would be great if there were salt and pepper, oil, coffee etc as well or maybe selling small portions of this in the shop as it seems a bit of waste to buy in full for a week's use. We did have to throw some food away, which I hate doing as it seems such a waste.
Prior to booking, I knew the complex was a bit further out from everything so this didn't bother us. We hired a car (loved the fact we could park directly infront of our house!) but we did walk along the back of the hotel/seafront into Arguineguín, which doesn't take long at all. It also does not take long to drive anywhere, we mainly visited Puerto Rico and Maspalomas which took maybe 10/15 minutes
Overall, I would definitely book to stay here again and would recommend to family and friends (but I would mention the cons). If I were to return, I think I would hope for the bed situation to be resolved the most and the splashzone - I really do think this was an oversight and badly planned. I would also recommend the houses with private pools considering how busy the beach club gets. We had a lovely holiday in...
Read moreWe stayed here in mid November 2021. The resort was/is still under construction as of our stay in mid November 2021.
Overall, we didn’t have a 5 star experience. It is not worth the price, at least for the Ocean Front villa, which has a “heated” private pool that was too cold to be used. We would have been better off with just a room or staying elsewhere, as we chose the villa for its private pool, which was rendered unusable because it was uncomfortably cold.
The check-in was handled professionally and most of the staff were good. Breakfast was just acceptable, nothing special and not a particularly wide selection.
We stayed in Ocean Front Villa 1001. The villa has a nice style, it was fresh and modern, had an ocean view as described and had good appliances. Though, there was some oversight in the kitchen, as it didn’t even have an oven. In the mornings, there was no hot water available to shower in the villa, though hot water was available later in the day. The private pool at the villa was supposedly “heated”, but disappointingly, it was cold, rendering it unusable. The water temperature in the private pool was 22°C, on a sunny day. We told the staff it was too cold to use and they even came to measure the temperature. The staff claimed the private pool was heated and even with the sun shining directly into the pool it was still too cold. We also tried the main, shared pool on the roof at this resort which was at an acceptable and usable temperature, much warmer than the private pool, but the main reason we booked the Ocean Front Villa is so we could use our own private pool, so we are disappointed it was too cold to be used.
For comparison, we stayed at a different accommodation nearby, immediately after our stay here (also with a private pool) and there was a noticeable difference in the water temperature, we could actually use the pool at our second accommodation elsewhere. It was also a much better standard, a better price than this resort and a better location. Obviously some improvements need to be made at this resort regarding the “heated” pools. Also, there was a constant a strange smell in the villa and surrounding area during our stay.
The surroundings of the resort are quite industrial and unfinished, the resort is near a cement factory and there are also caravans parked at the entrance where security seems to guard the entrance of the resort sitting in a car, which seemed odd to us, gave us the feeling that the area was somehow unsafe that they needed to guard it constantly.
On the subject of security, I was approached by one of the security personnel on the first morning of my stay, whilst I was at my car and was asked questions (if I was guest at the resort). The security guard was nice once he established I was a guest and apologised, but it really tainted my overall experience and I was taken aback as I didn’t expect it at a 5 star resort. I didn’t really feel comfortable/“at home” and it ruined the rest of my stay.
That interaction with security personnel alone, more than anything else, would make me less likely to return in the future and it is unfortunately the first thing that comes to my mind when I think back to...
Read moreWhat an oversell. Currently at Cordial Santa Agueda and supposedly the Perchel Beach Club Gran Canaria. The room is brilliant for a start thats the 1 star but that's it. Pool - The infinity pool is small and overlooks a road. There's ugly concrete walls at each side. The noise from the drains in the pool is ridiculous. Bar - There is no bar even though it says there is. It's a water machine with some glasses and apples. Gym - Basic, hardly any equipment Beach - The beach is just piles of pebble up to football size with steep drop in to the water. Snack Bar - opens late at midday but is closed all day Mondays and Tuesdays for some reason. Perchel Beach club - Even though you obviously pay for this facility in your holiday price you can't just use it. You have to cue to get in. They only allow the exact number of people as beds. They book it out online to anyone. The online bookings gets priority so most beds are already gone. They don't tell you until your turned away whilst seeing all the empty beds. Also even if staying in the hotel you have to pay to get in at Perchel on Saturday, Sundays and bank Holidays. Food - The restaurant at Perchel was rubbish. Portions small, The steak was literally half fat and grissel. They tried to charge 85 euros when the menu said 30 euros. Location - Nothing near by. But a few places a short walk. You do have to walk through a shanty town, derelict car park. Not the most inviting walk. Also no one tells you the whole place is next to a massive cement factory justva stones throw away. Reception - like a ghost town. 1 member of staff. To be fare they are friendly. Shop - The spar shop on site is well stocked. The grounds - The pebble beach side gardens are used as the local dog park. There's people and dogs all through the day using the grounds to pee and poo. All dogs are off the lead as well. Not good if your scared of dogs. Not really safe either. There's a public road running through the grounds that anyone uses who wants to park and walk through the complex to the football size pebble beach. This is concerning for people with families and just random cars driving through the grounds. It's not secure and can be unsafe. Cleanliness - The place is mostly clean. Facility - Opening times are quite rubbish. It's Thursday, we leave Saturday and I'm done and ready to leave. If I could stay somewhere else for the rest of my holiday I would. Me and my family will never stay here again nor would we recommend it. Over the last 9 years me and my wife have been together we have been on 10 holidays and this has been the worst place we...
