First time I have used this hotel after visiting Santiago de Compostela multiple times over the last 15 years. I normally stay in the historic center as it’s in easy reach of the main attractions, but can also be quite noisy at night (cathedral bells, revelers, etc), so thought try a little further out of the center. The Gran Hotel sits in the university quarter, which is just over a kilometer from the center, so easy 15 minute walk. Interior decor really unique, with the atrium covered in plants, the rooms are a bit dated in Regency style, but the suites are very spacious, with bath, his and hers sinks, separate living room and two TV’s! Staff really friendly and helpful, couple of little quirks, but not enough to make the stay unhappy, two lifts with one out of order all over the weekend, so waiting for the one lift at breakfast time especially meant a long, long wait or take the stairs, other point was the wardrobes in our room we’re stuck, so we couldn’t use them. Although they did offer for us to change rooms, which we declined because couldn’t be bothered to pack up again. So, kind of strange that no maintenance available for three days for lift, wardrobe etc. But as I said, I would definitely stay...
Read moreFirst time walking into the bathroom, pungent foul smell, suspicious of lacking a vent ruined my first impression. When I was trying to put my meds that need to be kept cool noticed oneof the soda cans was half way poped open spilling some sticky soda on the floor. I've Traveled all over the Europe, never had any problem filling up my small water bottle from some left over bottled water except this hotel in the morning. The waitress with scary and angry looking face shouted "no aqua!" Oh boy! Was I embarrassed like a kid caught stealing. By the way their breakfast buffer wasn't what I expected, and this was shared by other traveling tourists. I am going to suggest to our tour director to...
Read moreCosy and clean room but a bit old-fashioned; all the furniture was quite dated and ruined. Maybe the rooms would need renovation? On the contrary, every common area, included the central lounge and the bar, were curated and sophisticated. In the lounge, in particular, there were lots of sofas and a little fireplace where it seemed to be at home: nice! Decidedly beautiful also the central part of the hotel, prettify with plants' and flowers' vases. Also, the receptionists, really kind and professional, helped us with every single request. Unfortunately, breakfast was not at the same level! When we entered the breakfast room, no one told us where we could sit; and when we asked that, the staff was being unpleasant and unkind. Apart from that, also the breakfast buffet was poorly stocked, I could say almost non-existent!...
