Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Protur Bonoma. The positives include that the hotel was really clean, the staff were helpful, particularly the Tui rep and the lovely English receptionist. The pool area was very relaxing. Loved the rooftop infinity pool area. There were always beds available and it was all a well maintained space. The hotel is in a great location, right by the sea and beach, with a lovely view of the sea from the hotel. It was a lively, fun and friendly local area and we enjoyed walking between the two towns. The indoor facilities are good; we enjoyed using the indoor pool and the gym had good quality equipment. The room was a reasonable size but small balcony. I liked how they gave you towels and you had two free swaps per week. We felt the food allergens were labelled well and when we asked, more gluten free options, such as pasta, pizza bases and bread were available. If you stay for a week, you get to have an evening in the ‘Italian restaurant’ (the outdoor area by the pool). This was nice food and a good atmosphere with the beautiful views, yet it is almost the same as the lunch menu on offer during the day from 12-3pm. However, I would rate this hotel 3’s, rather than 4’s, for the following reasons. The air conditioning in the rooms and throughout the hotel building was inadequate. I rarely felt there was a spot to cool down both in the day and evening. The food was variable at times; the Mexican, Asian, Greek and Indian nights were really good, however, the other nights, we felt there were minimal options that we would have wanted to eat and sometimes lacked gluten free options. It’s a shame the chips weren’t gluten free. The breakfast was okay, the food was very stodgy and the meat was poor quality throughout our stay. The sun beds were okay, but having arm rests on them made it more difficult to get out of the sun bed, change position when lying down or cross your legs to sit on it. The big sunbeds were not comfortable, you could feel the metal bar underneath. The pillows in the room were of poor quality. They are either really long or a large square and I didn’t sleep through the night once during my stay, despite being tired. I don’t quite understand why there aren’t normal pillows in the room and I think this would have improved the quality of my stay significantly, alongside more powerful air conditioning. We booked a double room, however, we got two single beds pushed together, which easily moved apart, which wasn’t particularly romantic. Although we had a positive stay and left feeling relaxed, we wouldn’t return as a younger couple in a hotel which is clearly catered for the older population who are regular returners. I felt there were some discrepancies in the way new guests were treated compared to regular guests were treated. I witnessed the lifeguard being incredibly rude to a new couple (she aggressively gestured for them to move their sunbeds 6 inches behind the tiles without speaking or explaining the rules). I was quite shocked by this level of rudeness. However, she would go into the pool and allow jumping in and silly behaviour with guests she knew and liked. As we look quite young for our age, we felt staff were quite patronising to us in the way they spoke, particularly the entertainment lead, which we didn’t appreciate. She commented we didn’t join in with the activities a lot, however, we didn’t feel particularly welcome to join in as there were so many returners cliques, older in age. And actually, we were there to relax, sleep, swim, read and enjoy each other’s company so it was unnecessary pressure. We also didn’t like how the dinners were arranged. We didn’t mind committing to the late sitting dinner each evening as that time suited us just fine, but we didn’t like how we had to sit in the same seat each evening. We were close to the couples next to us in a quiet area of the room, and it would have been nice to be able to choose where to sit each night. I didn’t quite understand the rationale behind this, considering half the tables...
Read moreIf you are looking for a quiet hotel, in a great location, with the friendliest staff you won't go wrong staying at the Protur Bonamar in Mallorca. We've just come back from a 10 day stay and couldn't be happier. Victoria & Demi on reception can't do enough for you - they always greet you with a smile and a 'hello'. A welcome glass of Cava on arrival was a lovely touch. They are on hand with great local restaurant recommendations, directions and suggestions of great places to go and see!
The hotel itself is clean, tidy, modern and in a great location, right next to the sea and on the promenade within walking distances of the closest towns/hot spots. 3 swimming pools, (unheated) and plenty of space for everyone to get a sunbed without rushing to 'save' one! Plenty of area's to sit and relax out of the midday sun and designated arear for smokers/vapers. Lift access to all floors for ease when arriving and leaving with your suitcases. Hairdryer provided in room and iron and ironing board available on request. There really isn't anything you'd want for that isn't provided.
Food and drink offerings are plentiful and not overly priced for a hotel. Breakfast and dinner provided at the hotel was absolutely fine. Lots to choose from and dietary requirements accommodated. For mass catering there really wasn't anything to complain about - just be careful, you have a set dinner time and table each night so you can't pick and choose what time you'd like to eat each night - understandable with the numbers being catered for.
Natalie arranges and manages the entertainment programme for the hotel and engages with all the holidaymakers so you feel seen and valued. She's a ball of energy and spreads so much joy with her approach to entertaining - and absolute natural and asset to the hotel. You have to join the evening Bingo games - great fun and some really good money prizes to be won as well. Evening entertainment generally consisted of tribute bands/singers but there was something for everyone and a great standard as well.
MaNu, Vanessa, Jessica, Xavia, Kiara and Tomi are all fabulous hotel staff in the bar and restaurant area. Very quickly Kiara, Jessica and Vanessa got to know our preferences and were never far away when we wanted a drink (or two) MaNu lives with a smile on his face and the team always showed professionalism and politeness even when short staffed and at busier times of the day. They work so hard all the time, trying to enhance your holiday experience.
If you stay at the Protur Bonamar you have to book yourself in for a spa treatment with Fabiana - she's amazing and has the hands of an angel. We opted for aromatherapy massages and felt truly relaxed and pampered when finished. So much so we booked pedicures for the end of our holiday.
The rooms are clean and tidy (if not large in space) and storge is limited for 2 people with 10 days worth of luggage but the cleanliness is second to none. Each time we 'flipped the switch' for our room to be serviced, we came back to a very clean and tidy room. Could do with another hand towel being left for us longer hair users, but we asked for another towel and it was no problem. Balcony is small but is useable for a night cap on the balcony before bed.
A couple of slight disappointments, the water pressure in the room wasn't great in the shower and although the air-conditioning was on all the time, it never really felt 'cold' and you aren't able to turn down any lower than 18. It might be my naivety but drinks at dinner were chargeable, I would have thought a soft drink would have been included in the holiday cost but it wasn't. These are very small issues that didn't have any significant impact on our fabulous holiday. (just points for reference really)
Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Protur Bonamar Hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place or return in the future.
Thank you to ALL the team - you work so hard and we hope you are appreciated by...
Read moreJust back from a very relaxing 2 week break [our 4th such holiday here over the last 10 years, bearing in mind Covid] at the Protur Bonamar Hotel in Calla Bona, Majorca where:||From the moment we set foot through the doors we were made to feel extremely welcome and valued - as we were throughout our stay by all of the Reception Staff [Victoria, Jessica, Demi and Iris]. They were all polite, professional and extremely helpful at every interaction with them – whether it was changing of the towels [for around the pool], help with the Wi-Fi or general advice on the best place to get something. Absolutely faultless.||Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking the garden but it also had a reasonable view of the sea which meant that sitting on the balcony you had a great view of the sun rise first thing in the morning and a great view of the pleasure boats, yachts and jet skis going across the front later in the day.||The room was kept spotless by the great cleaning staff, all of the room equipment worked perfectly and all hotel provided tea, coffee and bathing liquids were kept full on a regular basis. The bed was comfortable [personal opinion I know], clean and adequate covers provided.||The restaurant operated like clockwork under the full time attention of Mariano who was also polite, professional and a non-stop hard worker. They say an organisation or a department is only as good as the person in charge – well, Mariano led from the front and it showed!||In our opinion there was a sufficient variety of all 3 courses of food on offer every evening, plus it was always well cooked, hot [as appropriate] and well presented.||Hotel provided entertainment wise - this was down to the Entertainment Manager Natalie, who is absolutely lovely and made taking part in the daytime activities/games great fun. Natalie also runs the bingo session in the evening before the evening entertainer who was usually a singer.||The swimming pool, while not big, is still of a size where my wife was able to swim a good number of lengths [~ 1km] every morning. All areas of the pool and surrounding area were kept very clean ready for the next day and Chlorine levels were checked and adjusted as necessary on a regular basis.||All in all, the above is why we and many of the other guests keep returning to this lovely hotel; i.e. its size [it feels ‘homely’], the facilities, the location and most of all, the staff. We would give more than 5 stars...
