Albatros — Hotel in Suances

We spent 2 nights here on a Brittany Ferries short break. Criteria for our stay were; close to Santander - Suances is 20 km approx., on the coast with beaches and fishing port - 3 beaches and a pretty port area, quiet small and friendly hotel with bar/restaurant and free parking - exactly so with the bonus of superb country views and a pool. You will not find modern minimalist fixtures here but the furnishings are traditional with pretty attention to detail and ample storage facilities in the room and bathroom. No safe in the room but reception has one if you need it. We had a delightful view of the countryside and outskirts of Suances town from the room which was above the terrace with the same view. Reception staff were so friendly, as in fact were all we met, the lovely waitresses seem to multi task serving drinks and cleaning frequently. 10 minutes walk to the huge La Concha beach - some steep steps at the bottom of the road the hotel is on cut the corner. Walking back could be difficult for the less mobile who will probably need a car. Plenty of bars and restaurants in the beach area and behind. Walk the length of this beach and you find the port area with even more. We discovered the dinner menu and wine list and decided to sample this. The hotel does not serve snacks, just a "menu of the day" for lunch or dinner with plenty of choice for each of 3 courses currently priced at 15 euros. This is real Spanish food. We loved it but fussy children may not! A really nice bottle of wine or cava for 9 euros too! Another of which we took on to the terrace to peacefully enjoy the view as darkness fell and a little bat flitted around catching insects. You could also eat all meals on the terrace weather permitting. The restaurant has a bar and there is another small one, bright and prettily decorated. Breakfast is self service - no full English (not commonly offered in this part of Spain) but plenty of fruit, yogurt, patisserie, tortilla, ham and cheese and plenty of good coffee and tea. The pool area, as all of the hotel, was spotlessly clean with a shaded area as a refuge from the heat, adjacent to the terrace and sharing the view. The hotel was so relaxed and comfortable we didn't go out in the evenings. Our room was so quiet, no noise from adjacent rooms or from the terrace. One reviewer reported mosquitoes but we found none but always use a plug- in insecticide just in case. The receptionist who greeted us spoke some English but one of us speaks Spanish so we can't tell how much other staff members did. This hotel is a gem in such a picturesque resort - some incredible walks to be had as well. The main town you pass through on the way is very attractive but a bit of a walk uphill. Most of our fellow guests were Spanish, with one French couple and a few Germans. English people seem to mostly by-pass the North of Spain as it does not get the consistent good weather of the South and East and English is not widely spoken. great location, 5 minute walk to check out the surf at Los Locos. surrounded by lush, rolling green hills...cows.......views around every turn.......and the coastline is magnificent. the deck for dining, hanging out, and the pool area are both extremely pleasant. Breakfast is more than sufficient. If you need to speak English, Lorena is the only employee who can actually communicate in the language and she is friendly and efficient. You can also write her an email for any requests and she is very responsive. Negatives: there is no ventilation in the bathrooms, which requires no further explanation, nor in the entire hotel, which explains the musty smell throughout. The spa area is very nice, but with tepid water in the jacuzzis and tepid temperature in the turkish bath rendered the relaxation quotient to zero, as my muscles tightened and I was actually chilled by the experience. They told me the temperature (38° C) was 1° higher than normal. Estancia de AGOSTO 2025. HOTEL EN PÉSIMAS CONDICIONES de mantenimiento pero lo inaceptable son las condiciones de higiene y limpieza que tienen las habitaciones. Pongo una estrella porque no puedo poner cero… Os resumo mi caso: nuestra estancia debería de haber sido de varias noches. Llegamos a la tarde, dejamos las cosas y fuimos a dar una vuelta y cenar. Llegamos a la habitación a las 12 de la madrugada y nos dimos cuenta de que el baño, pese a tener el precinto de limpio, tenía restos de dearrea de los anteriores clientes. Llamamos urgentemente a recepción, la empleada se quedó anonada, nos pidió disculpas y lo limpió ella misma como pudo ya que el personal de limpieza ya no estaba. Le pedimos un cambio de habitación ya que no nos sentíamos cómodos pero el hotel lo denegó. Además de restos de dearrea, la habitación estaba llena de arañas grandes y y las sábanas de la cama estaban con pequeños desgarres. Lógicamente, esa noche no dormimos nada y a la mañana siguiente fuimos a recepción a pedir la cancelación total de la reserva por falta de higiene y limpieza. Desde ese momento la atención que recibimos fue pésima y después de más de tres semanas, esperamos el abono del dinero. Booking dice que el establecimiento se niega y el establecimiento dice que se niega booking (cuando booking por teléfono nos dijo que era decisión del establecimiento). A lo largo de estas tres semanas he llamado varias veces por teléfono para conocer el tema y siempre me dicen que la supervisora no está, tiene mucho trabajo y que estará al día siguiente y que llame. Siempre me dan la misma respuesta. A raíz de todo esto, he visto que las reseñas que tiene este hotel son pésimas. Falta de higiene, cucarachas, las zonas comunes en muy mal estado (el suelo alrededor de la piscina tiene zonas levantadas y te puedes cortar, los cristales de las barandillas de seguridad están rotos y con telas de araña, el pasamanos de la escalera interior del hotel está arrancado de la pared y por ello pone no tocar…). Desde luego que las imágenes de su web y de los portales no tienen nada que ver con la realidad. Parece que es un sitio “majo” pese a que tiene sus años pero está en condiciones muy malas de mantenimiento y sobretodo y lo más importante, de higiene. Además, el trato al cliente es muy malo. Me han llamado canso muchas veces, que es problema de todos los clientes que hemos ido y del auge del turismo en Cantabria. Si no pueden tener el volumen de clientes que quieren tener, quizás deberían considerar disminuir la ocupación. EN DEFINITIVA, NO RECOMENDAMOS ESTE ALOJAMIENTO A NADIE. A nosotros nos han estropeado las vacaciones, tuvimos que irnos a otro alojamiento y ahora no devuelven el dinero. Insisto, no es un caso aislado por lo que veo en las reseñas. Y para colmo, les dices que vas a poner una reclamación en consumidores y te dicen que ellos tienen material para alegar que no es suciedad y es desgaste del wc (por ello adjunto foto de wc con suciedad y limpio para que podáis valorarlo vosotros y otras imágenes - tened en cuenta que la cámara no es buena pero aún con todo se aprecia la diferencia) imagino que por otro wc del alojamiento. También tenemos vídeos donde se ve la dearrea del wc mucho mejor y las arañas corriendo por las paredes de la habitación pero no se permite subirlos. Valorad vosotros mismos.
