Hotel Jardín Concha — Hotel in Valle Gran Rey

We were staying in Tenerife and decided to visit La Gomera by ferry and took our hire car over to explore the Island ourselves, also decided to stay overnight in a local hotel, to REALLY experience the Island more. We was blown away by the beauty of the Island. This hotel is more like a B&B, very local and tucked away, so pleased there was a tourist information shack nearby who gave us directions to the hotel, there are many steps up to the hotel, so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The host was very friendly, and the hotel felt loved and cared for. It had all you needed for one or two nights, or if you aren't spending much time in the room - many other guests were walkers, so was a good base. Breakfast was lovely, traditional spanish breakfast of cheese, fruit, bread, coffee, tea etc. All of the fruit was grown in the owners garden. The room was small but very clean, and had what you needed to sleep and shower, it had a lovely little balcony with a small table and 2 chairs on, which was perfect to look at the view of the sea. It was very hot when we stayed and there wasn't any air conditioning, only to leave the balcony doors open, which was lovely to lay in bed and watch the sky, but the heat did make it difficult to sleep. I problemi si sono presentati fin dal primo istante, in quanto la proprietaria mi aveva destinato una camera differente da quella prenotata e di qualità inferiore: ubicata al piano terra sul terrazzo dove potevano passare e prendere il sole altri ospiti, cosa che costringeva a restare con le tende chiuse per tutto il tempo. La camera non aveva un tavolo, non c'erano il televisore, il frigo, la cassaforte ed il terrazzo privato, descritto nella prenotazione. Il bagno era minuscolo e non ci si poteva letteralmente muovere. La porta d'ingresso mal funzionante e le pareti macchiate di umidità. Quando ho fatto presente che la camera non era quella prenotata, mi è stato risposto che non ce ne erano altre disponibili. Solo dopo l'intervento del portale di prenotazione (booking.com), con la richiesta di una tariffa minore, la proprietaria mi ha destinato la camera corretta, fornita di quanto mancante nella precedente. Ciò nonostante, la qualità era comunque bassa: bagno senza bidet e senza phon, frigo rumorosissimo, maniglia della porta rotta col rischio continuo di restare bloccati dentro. La camera, su quattro notti, è stata rifatta e pulita una sola volta. La tanto decantata colazione si risolveva in un pacchetto di biscotti aperto posato sul tavolo (e neanche tutte le mattine), pane, frutta, un paio di marmellate, un vassoio di prosciutto, uno di formaggio ed un succo di frutta, più, naturalmente caffè ecc... No acqua. Per me che consumo una colazione prevalentemente dolce, è risultata molto scarsa; in qualsiasi caffè del paese avrei trovato di meglio ed a minor costo. Ad onor del vero, bisogna dire che, pare che tutti i prodotti siano di produzione propria. Attenzione: a Valle Gran Rey Vodafone prende poco o niente, nell'hotel assolutamente nulla. Per usare il telefono dovevo andare sulla strada. Per cui, se avete necessità di essere reperibili, tenete presente questo elemento. L'hotel ha il wi-fi funzionante nelle ore di reception (no notte) e solo in reception ed in un pezzo di giardino (neanche nella stanza della colazione). L'hotel è molto grazioso, con delle terrazze panoramiche molto belle, ma si trova in una posizione non raggiungibile in auto, ma solo dopo svariate scalinate, per cui se avete valigie pesanti tenetelo presente. E' molto tranquillo e silenzioso di notte ( peccato che il frigorifero mal funzionante mi abbia reso il sonno quasi impossibile!). Si trova lontano da tutto il resto del paese: a circa 30' a piedi dalla zona del porto e a 15' dal centro del paese. L'unica comodità è che si trova a 5' dal terminale dei bus. Al momento di pagare, dapprima la proprietaria ha cercato di fatturare una colazione in più e poi ha cercato di fatturare le colazioni extra, mentre erano incluse nella tariffa. Consiglio: portatevi sempre copia della prenotazione!!! A mio avviso il rapporto qualità/prezzo è molto basso, soprattutto considerato che nella zona del porto si trovano appartamenti con uso cucina a 20...

We spent 2 very comfortable nights in this small hotel at the beginning of June.||The room was basic but clean and with a small balcony and a sea view.
