On my first day in Sri Lanka, I came to Maniumpathy and instantly fell in love with the historic charm and appeal of the entire property! Not only is it located in a great locality of Colombo, it offers so much inside the hotel that it will be quite difficult for you to leave and go explore the city! I absolutely loved everything here from the interiors, laidback vibe and friendly staff! I'd like to make a special mention for the entire staff as they were all so friendly and upbeat throughout the day and their energy really transfers onto the guests! Upul really looked after me during my time at Maniumpathy and he was just so attentive and friendly and patient! Very accommodating staff as well as polite. They have 7 rooms available which are each differently furnished and I really didn't expect the level of luxury that I saw in each room! Super beautiful and aesthetic corners dotted around the property as well as some active squirrels which you can spot! The bathrooms were regal and the entire feel of the rooms can instantly relax you and put you in a vacation mood! If you're coming from the Middle East or in a group/with family, this is a great place to base yourself out of since it's a locally owned property and they can offer you a true Sri Lankan experience through their hospitality, food and entertainment! I tried so many items from their menu as well and thoroughly enjoyed everything! It was my first time trying Sri Lankan food and the Thaali they served me (A platter consisting of different dishes in small quantities which allow you to eat several things at once just blew me away and I can really see how different it is to regional cuisines of South Asia while still bearing a few similarities. The Jaffna curry and the Payasam was my favourite! Their pool area is so serene and you can even enjoy at their spa! I think it's wonderful to stay at several hotels whenever visiting a new country or city as you can check out the area as well and learn more through the locals so a visit to Maniumpathy is definitely a must for the ultimate Sri...
Read moreI have thought long and hard about writing this review. The actual score i would give would be 3.5stars.
The good things are that the hotel is in a nice location, and the staff are so friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make sure you have a pleasant stay.
We stayed (July 2024) in one of the front rooms near the reception area with my family and there are a few issues with this room.. the attached bedroom was rather small and the beds were quite uncomfortable. The main bedroom was fine and the bed was comfortable, however that room was not particularly spacious and was a bit dark. The bathroom is spacious and looks nice but is not very practical when staying with a family (as the room was sold for 4pax, we thought this should be mentioned). The opening to the bathroom, also directly faces the door which opens out the reception area of the hotel, and because the bathroom doors have small opening, you have to ensure its closed, before you open the door to the room.
The breakfast was nice, but for the price of the hotel i would expect better quality produce for the items ordered.. the hotel is one of the most expensive in Colombo, and markets itself as a boutique hotel so the quality of the produce they should use should be commensurate with the prices they are charging..
Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice hotel, i think maybe they should have relocated us to another room once they identified that we were rather uncomfortable in the front room allocated to us (which the management interestingly picked up quite early). i believe the rooms at the back near the pool area are modern and have been renovated and are more spacious. The staff are absolutely delightful, and we were so happy with them .
The owners of the hotel need to realise once you start charging 4*+ boutique European hotel rates, then the hard product needs to match the price, and i think in this instance our experience did not reflect that... I would encourage the owners to...
Read moreManiumpathy is one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Colombo, however we didn't visit to stay. We visited on two occasions: once for afternoon high tea with my sister, mum and a friend and a second time to host lunch for close family friends.||The high tea needs to be pre-ordered so we were glad we called earlier to make a booking. If you're wondering how many to order, 1 platter is ample for 2 people.|The staff are very attentive and offered lovely refreshments on arrival. We selected a passionfruit beverage which was delicious. ||There is also a tea menu and the Maniumpathy blend is delicious and my favourite.||The high tea platter comes complete with hot and cold canapes featuring puff pastries and cucumber sandwiches. There is also a selection of cakes and of course, light and fluffy scones with cream and jam. ||It was a wonderful experience to be enjoyed outside on the terrace overlooking the grounds and pool with a cool breeze.||Definitely recommended for all high tea enthusiasts.||Our lunch experience was equally enjoyable and we made a booking for the Jaffna thali lunch. We were not disappointed. The Jaffna thali comes with an array of delicious dishes including a choice of chicken, mutton, crab or mustard fish as well as an array of vegetables and rasam. ||On of our guests ordered the crab and she enjoyed every last claw and leg and kept apologising for taking so long to eat but she was enjoying her crab SO VERY MUCH!||The thali also comes complete with dessert so you don't need to worry about wondering what to have. A delicious local treat ends the meal.||We truly enjoyed our culinary experiences at Maniumpathy and we will definitly be back. It's the perfect location and surrounding for a stylish and very elegant dining experience.||The staff are very professional and attentive, offering us their suggestions. ||Highly recommended for an afternoon treat or a great lunch or...
