Have been a Nordic Choice Club member for a while, thanks to the nice experience I had in their multiple hotels in Sweden. So, as we were visiting Gothenburg, we decided staying at Quality Waterfront for three reasons - view, amazing member offer and of course, loyalty to Nordic Choice hotels.
But, unfortunately, the experience was not up the standard.
Service quality:
It was not good. There was a stark difference between staffs. Some were super friendly and giving a smile whenever asked with any question, while some were not. In particular, one receptionist was quite rude/arrogant. During our check-in, she gave us multiple wrong information, including the check out time, which was quite embarrassing. Unfortunately, I had to face her again as I returned to claim back my baggages that we left for a couple of hours after check-out. She was called to the front desk as her colleague was busy over the phone. She completely ignored me and went for another customers, despite me being in a queue. I said, "hej, I am in a rush, my taxi is waiting and I have to catch a bus". She didn’t give a hid, and said "check in guests need to wait, and you are not in the queue".
What!!!!!
I said again, and was not heard at all. She only looked at me when the other client was done. I said, I need to pick up the baggage. Never had I ever saw that a receptionist would say, " Go to the door, I press the button from here". Yet, I followed the order, tried to open the door, multiple times, but in vain. She didn’t bother moving from her seat, rather said "keep trying again"
Damn!!!
Breakfast service:
Had better breakfasts in other Nordic Choice Hotels. Of course, there were a lot of items to choose from, but taste-wise many of them were bland and pretty cheap cuts. For instance, the pancakes and the cream had no sugar whatsoever, the scrambled egg was watery, and so on.
Again, there was a charming lady at the entrance who would check your breakfast time and let you in. They now have a covid provision to have a pre-booked time, which I really appreciate. So, one night I called the reception to change the timing for the breakfast next morning as we were very tired. The front desk was very prompt and helpful in this regard. But, the "charm" of the lady at the restaurant door was gone as soon as I handed over the ticket to her. She gave a very weird look and said "you booked the time at 8.00, and you are showing up now at 9.45!?" I said, "Oh, yes, I changed it with your front desk, please check my room number on the list". She still kept that look of a Police Inspector, " did you? Okay, let me check first". Comm'n, please don't do this schooling... 🙄🙄🙄
Room:
Okay! Half-used toilet paper rolls, very basic iron and dusty iron board, not so clean sofa. Before check in, we were informed that there would be no housekeeping due to COVID, which again I appreciated until I arrivee the front desk for check-in. And, this time, we were informed "Oh, due to summer time, we do not have enough staff. If you need anything like fresh towel come downstair at the front desk and pick it up from us"
So, COVID was a very good excuse,...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights last month, the first thing that works for this hotel is its beautiful view outside of it where you are in full view of the Älvsborgsbron (picture attached). Its along the port whereby Stena Cruise Ships passes by and during breakfast I was able to catch it passing under the bridge which was cool.
My room unfortunately was plagued with a very loud and sharp sounding shower and that spoiled the second day for us as it was some pipe malfunction which we reported to the front desk. It was a safety hazard.
Room size for 3 people was generous and the additional bed set up for us was comfortable. Hotel concierge were friendly to us and spoke in slow Swedish as we are still learning the language which was great!
They had a gym and sauna which I didn't use, so if you like that, its available. What really surprised me was the breakfast cum bar restaurant. The food was more than what we expected and its by no means just bread and some condiments or cereal. They took time to consider all options and it was readily available. So I would recommend that. The bar in the evening was a nice touch with pretty strong cocktails and if you want to have a drink with a view, its a consideration.
I would choose to stay here again in my next visit pending the tram service which during my visit was being upgraded so we had to shuttle between 2 buses to get from central Göteborg to the hotel. Usually its a direct ride on tram...
Read moreImagine turning up in the early hours of the morning with a one year old only to be told they had overbooked (they knew they had but took a risk anyway). It was not just us but multiple parties from the wedding group getting shipped off to various different hotels in the area. The sister hotel we were moved to said this happens all the time and they have to pick up the pieces because waterfront managers take a gamble that some people won’t turn up and they make more money. We were furious and just needed to get to bed, so agreed to be moved on the condition they would be paying for cabs (the other hotel was 20 minutes away from the wedding).
The hotel sent us a sorry note in the post with a card promising to pay back the money. It’s clear they did this to prevent negative reviews. It’s been months now and no refund and no response to the last email (from Marcus) where they said they would pay. Until the money is paid back to my partner, my review stands and will be shared elsewhere. The behaviour from this hotel has been...
