My stay was over the Thanksgiving week which is mostly off-season for hotels in Switzerland. As a result, I was the only guest for several nights, and the hostess was incredibly gracious and generous with my stay at the Traube. She responded to my booking inquiries quickly and was accommodating in every way. ||My room looked out over the main street and was a good size. Very comfortable and charming. A very quiet location. The ensuite bathroom was a good size and very clean as was the room, of course. The wifi was strong, and the breakfast was served every morning. No elevator but most of the rooms are on the second floor. ||The hotel is located in the center of the town with a bakery a few steps away and access to lovely restaurants, shopping, and supermarkets, as well. We ate at the Restaurant Marktplatz which had a lovely menu selection in a beautiful, historic setting. I highly recommend the Hotel Traube and I hope I can return to stay...
Read moreStayed 4 nights. The location cannot be beat in the middle of this lovely town. The rooms and bed were comfortable and clean. They are on the small side. We were on the top floor and had a wonderful view of the courtyard below. The breakfast was good with breads, meat and cheese, yogurt, fruit, boiled eggs, and cereals. There is no in room coffee maker, refrigerator. There is a small table in the room. There is no elevator so you have to carry your luggage up and down. Also, I don't know where you would park a car . The weather was great for us, but there is no air conditioner and there was a fan in the room. We left the windows open at night. Of note, the bell tower chimes all night and at 630 AM the bell chimes as if to wake up the entire city. This is part of the charm of staying here. It was really convenient to stroll the city. PS the train station is about a 5...
Read moreOverall it was a nice stay here. The location cannot be beat. You are quite literally right in the middle of Appenzell. The train station is an easy walk (maybe 5 minutes) with luggage in tow.
The room itself was clean but VERY small, in fact of all the places I stayed in Switzerland, it was the smallest. It was a bunk bed room, but I don't know how two people would physically stay in this room. I barely had room for my luggage and I was solo!
The included breakfast at the hotel was decent (not great but ok). I lucked out because the Hotel Traube breakfast area is closed on Wednesdays and so you walk basically across the street to the Drei Konige Bakery and they provide breakfast. It was notably better than the hotel's breakfast.
Overall, I would stay here again because it was a decent value (for Switzerland) and the location...
