Apenzell is the most traditional of all the Swiss regions, a rural world where time has stopped, where culture and tradition are celebrated, and where the charming landscape of rolling green hills full of plump cows is guarded by the 8,200-foot Mount Säntis. The village of Apenzell is the Switzerland of our imagination and in the fairytales of our childhood, with its lavishly carved chalets, carriages drawn by horses in full feathered headdresses, a busy village square where all the village business is conducted, richly painted emblems and panels on all of Appenzell’s buildings, and gnomes competing for space with flower boxes dripping with vivid red geraniums. There is always a festival going on, or a concert, wedding, or celebration in which everyone participates, and there are seemingly endless hiking trails that turn into magical cross-country trails when the winter throws its white blanket over everything.

The best place to stay in the heart of charming Appenzell! I have to highlight their complimentary breakfast at the Café—when a hotel says “breakfast included,” THIS is what it should mean. Fresh-squeezed orange juice, croissants baked that morning, a beautiful spread of fruit and oatmeal, and a generous assortment of jams and honey. On top of that, eggs and bacon are made to order and brought right to your table. We were traveling with a large family group, and each morning the staff thoughtfully arranged for us to sit together. The team truly went above and beyond with their hospitality, creating a level of service that elevated every part of our stay. I had the best night’s sleep of my entire trip here (out of four other high-quality hotels). The rooms and hallways were clean and character-rich—charming and historic without feeling outdated. Wholeheartedly recommend!

The restaurant / Café is at the town square (Landsgemeindeplatz) in Appenzell. It is also a hotel. Reachable by foot from the train station in about 5 minutes. At the town square in front of it are lots of parking lots. It is possible to sit outside an in colder weather they provide blankets. The quality of the dishes is very good. The portion size is balanced. I especially like the variation of cakes they offer as dessert. It is possible to go in larger groups but if so you should make a reservation. The prices are on the higher side.

The room was very clean and cozy with a comfortable mattress and pillows. The Staff is very attentive and catered to every request. What a wonderful place to be. You are in the heart of Appenzell with in walking distance to all the shops and nearby restaurants. Although we rarely strayed from our cozy Appenzell Hotel. The breakfast is truly a gem.Full of delicious local cheeses,”meets, fresh breads , yogurts, fruit plates, fresh squeezed orange juice with Prosecco if desired.The highlight for me were their incredible dinners , that to me are quntissential Swiss food. Although I did see a good variety of American classics , like hamburgers and steak, but really?? When in Switzerland I recommend sampling every delicious morsel they Hotel Appenzell offers. My wife and I toured other local hotels to compare and The hotel Appenzell is the crown Jewel of this beautiful town and the staff and service with provide professional service with a genuine smile. We loved staying at this charming hotel. Our room was updated and very comfortable and the bathroom was beautifully modern. The hotel, which offers free on-site parking and an elevator, is conveniently located in the adorable village of Appenzell. All of the employees were friendly and efficient. But the absolute best thing about this cute hotel is that they served the best food we had on our entire extended Switzerland vacation! The breakfasts were beautifully displayed and offered a large selection. The freshly baked breads and pastries from their own on-site bakery and the delicious cooked to order eggs were looked forward to each morning. The dinner we had was the highlight meal of our trip! And I can’t leave out that they also have an on-site ice cream shop in the bakery that serves the yummiest homemade ice cream extravaganzas ever! We would definitely stay at this sweet hotel again and would recommend...
