I wish I could be more positive about the Ochsen, because the owners are so nice, but after returning home, I nearly fell on my face from exhaustion. It was 3 nights with very little sleep.||||Why?||The Ochsen is situated right across the street from a church with a clock tower. It’s a very pretty clock tower, mind you. But after midnight it ceases to be so pretty. It doesn’t matter where in the hotel your room is, on the street side or on the inside, you WILL hear the bells. The bells clang every quarter of an hour and then again ON the hour. If you happen to doze off at 11pm and are zonked enough to make it through the 3 quarter-hour chimes, the 12 bells at midnight will definitely wake you up. That is to say unless you live across from a clock tower in real life.||||Then let’s say you finally get to sleep after midnight and none of the hourly chimes rouse you. You are STILL not off the hook, especially if you have a room on the street side. The Ochsen is right on the main drag through Bad Ragaz. Traffic all night long! Some of it VERY loud!||||We switched to a room on the inside of the hotel, but it helped only slightly. One can still hear the traffic. If you close the windows, it’s too hot. If you open them, it’s too noisy and then the mosquitoes come in. Then if you happen to doze off in between the chimes and the trucks, you can bet that a mosquito will soon start her strafing runs at your ear.||||Then let’s say you were drunk enough to sleep the whole night through every last chime. (And we always had plenty of beer before dinner and wine during dinner!) You are STILL not off the hook. They have early mass every day at this church. The bells go full blast at 6 AM. 6 AM!!||||Unless you are used to living across from a clock tower in a noisy city, you have NO chance!||||The rooms are very simple and well laid out. However, the Putzfrau (cleaning lady) really needs to go back to Putzfrau school. We were there with a 14 month-old baby who we knew would be crawling around the entire room, so we decided to give the floor a sweep with one of the towels. (all the rooms have wood floors) The towel came up shockingly dirty. Upon seeing that and not finding a single employee in the building, we were soon on our hands & knees with wet towels cleaning the floor. It was truly filthy. We had to do the same thing in the second room.||||Breakfast is nice. Herr [---] is very attentive, pleasant, and efficient.||||The [---] are nice people. And the Ochsen would be nice place if they get a new cleaning lady. I just wish the rooms had soundproof walls & windows; or maybe a remote to mute the...

Read moreI prefer not to do a bad review, but we gave this hotel every opportunity to resolve our issues but got zero back from them. I don't have a problem with self check in, but then we had no hot water, and subsequently cold showers. Despite speaking to someone who could speak english on the phone, who assured me it would get resolved, it didn't. Resulting in cold showers again in the morning. There were a couple of other things wrong with the room, which we reported, but it was the lack of hot water that was unacceptable. Numerous emails later where we were promised financial compensation, but this has never been forthcoming. Its the attitude to us, as the service user, that is the most galling.|The restaurant however, was excellent. The food delicious, good portion size and value for money. Plus a great breakfast. The staff were lovely, but with limited English, tried to be helpful. We got the impression they were independent...
