This hotel is full of welcoming gestures and pleasant surprises characterised by a certain generosity. I really appreciate it when I have paid a premium price per night that I am not nickled-and-dimed after check-in. For example - the hotel does not charge for its rental bikes, sun loungers, mini golf and outdoor parking, while there is also an étagère of fruit and a coffee machine for free self-service. We made use of some of the free customisation options circulated before check-in - the mattress topper and nicer pillows definitely made us sleep better. Ms Natter at reception provided a warm welcome, and I was very grateful when she offered to reserve a table in the restaurant we had in mind for dinner.
The room - nr. 224 "Executive Twin Room, Balcony, Lake View" - was spacious and had a grand high ceiling. The modest surcharge for a lakeside room is worth considering not just for the view, but also because the other sides of the hotel face a reasonably noisy road. Unexpectedly in the old building, there was no noise audible from the corridor or neighbours. As other reviewers have mentioned, the decor is a little unfashionable and dated in some places. This is a fair point - the bathroom was pastel pink - but because everything has been so well maintained, there is absolutely no sense of neglect or disrepair. It had no impact on our enjoyment or impression of the hotel. The WiFi was fairly fast - 30 Mbit - and neither of us had any issues connecting with Samsung devices.
I was most nervous about the other common complaint about the ground floor stinking of cigarette smoke, but this seems to have been addressed. The entrance to the smokers' lounge looks much more contemporary than the rest of the ground floor, so the air-tightness and ventilation seem to have been beefed up recently. In any case, I couldn't smell anything.
If you are hoping to swim in Lake Lucerne, then this hotel comes into its own. Apart from the hotel's private lakeside terrace, there are no other practical places for a quick swim - for example, before breakfast or in the evening - in the area. I loved the fitness room too. Bright, spacious and with up-to-date TechnoGym equipment including a Kinesis.
The stay concluded with the breakfast buffet. The cappucino - from a rare Swiss brand of bean-to-cup machine - was excellent. The quality and range of food was average, consisting of the usual range of charcuterie, cheese and bread with some fruit and muesli, as well as juices from concentrate. The omelette station was a real plus, and despite the breakfast room being completely full, there was never a queue of more than one...

We recently held our family celebration here at Seehotel Waldstätterhof and most of our guests were from abroad. Everyone had an amazing time and commented on how perfect everything was to the last detail. When we initially booked, we thought we can only use one hall but later they offered to use also the other hall - so combined together we had a very spacious room for dancing and kids' games and entertainment. That was really nice. We had an Italian buffet which was so good including the mouth-watering desserts.
Hena, our main contact, responded fast to all queries and questions and did a great job on the actual event - I couldn't ask for anything better. Special thanks also to Sabine who was extremely helpful during the event and even came up with ideas like turning off the lights and putting on a special sparkling candle during the birthday song (and blowing off candles). They helped us also during pack-up. After the event, there was still daylight (summer) so the guests stayed by the lake in front of the hotel, and had a nice chat while soaking their feet in the cool water, breathing the fresh air, and enjoying the incredible scenery of the alps and the lake. The others went swimming in the clear water. It's a gem of a place.
Overall it was a very memorable day with our loved ones that we will hold on to for life. Thank you so much to the team and all the...
Read moreBeautiful old hotel on the lakeshore in Brunnen . Excellent location. The hotel itself has passed its glory days. We were quite unfortunate to have spent the hottest days of the summer there. The rooms have no air conditioning In this case selecting a lake view room was the wrong decision. That side of the building was blasted by the sun and the stone walls turned the room into a pizza oven. It was quite stressful to not be able to cool off after an exhausting day of sightseeing. A hotel of this caliber should enter into the 21st century even if they only experience 10 hot days out of the year , for the comfort of their guests. It’s also worth mentioning ,that we were offered no help with our bags upon checking in ,or out or with parking. At checkout we were presented with a bill for additional charges for City taxes The bill also included the the restaurant charges from the previous night that we paid at the time with a credit card. It was strange that the front desk had detailed knowledge of what we consumed. When we pointed out the mistake, they reversed the charges. I would still advise to look over your bill carefully before paying. On the positive side, the dinner at the restaurant was superb. Local fish prepared to perfection. The wine selection was also great. We absolutely love Brunnen and stayed there numerous times. But we will definitely not stay there again on a hot day until the hotels wake up and start thinking about improving their...
