Mercure Lenzburg Krone — Hotel in Lenzburg

Staying here was not a good experience for us. It is an old hotel and feels like it. Everything is basic except the price. Rooms are unrenovated. I had to look at three before I was shown one that was acceptable. Breakfast was also pretty basic, unless perhaps you’re Swiss. Anything edible ran out quickly and took ages to replace. They had no idea what a poached egg is or a hard boiled egg - 5 minutes, I was told, is all they do. That’s runny. Difficult to communicate as no one in the breakfast room speaks English. |When I asked if there were any English TV channels, I was told to scroll through the (many) channels myself to find out. I did and there was not one. |I can only assume they just can’t be bothered to cater for |anyone other than Swiss - that’s fine, but it should be reflected in the price, which it is not. No one smiles, but |the young women on reception were good and tried to be helpful. |There is a bowl of fruit for guests near reception, but fruit had obviously been there a while and was overripe. Will try elsewhere...

A strange experience. Main issue was the lack of air conditioning - it was 31 degrees outside and around double that in the hotel. I find it astonishing that a/c is absent in a country that has hot weather for at least 4 months a year. ||||Another problem was arriving at 2pm and having to wait an hour to check in (with a tired baby). In fairness we discovered that the official check-in time is 3pm, but we didn’t see more than about 20 other guests, so I have no idea how it could take them so long to clean the rooms. Clearly the hotel does not employ enough cleaners.||||The staff were generally helpful, especially the manager of the terrace restaurant. However the above issues...

We had a really enjoyable 3 nights, the two best attributes are the very friendly and helpful staff, and the complimentary bar. The rooms were well fitted out and modern, had a lovely stylish bathroom, very comfortable beds, and crisp linen. The continental breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of regional produce including fresh baked rolls and cheeses. My only surprise was that there was no air con as kr was the height of the heatwave, but the hotel staff gave us an excellent fan which aided sleep. There could be a place to sit inside which is quiet and away on its own. Felt calm, relaxed and taken care of at the end of the stay and would definitely come back or try other...
