The youth hostel is in the outskirts of Zurich - a 20 minute car ride or 20 minutes by the train. The train stop is really close to the hostel for an easy ride into the city. ||We went to Zurich in April for the long Easter weekend. And were looking for a quiet spot close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The hostel literally opens into the lake and has a garden where you can sit to read a book while looking out into the lake, sunbathe, or simply take a stroll. You can also go for a paddle boat ride. ||The rooms are clean and tidy, though far from luxurious. There are common bathrooms for the corridor, but really clean as well with good supply of water and heating. There is really good free breakfast. But the only downside is breakfast is served only till 9:00. So a sleep-in may not be an option. ||The staff is very friendly, but don't always rely on them for travel or tourist information. It's best to do your own research. There is free wi-fi in the hostel as well as some computers in the common room. ||If you opt for this hostel, it's best to come here by your own car so that you are mobile. The neighbourhood seems really nice and safe till late in the night. So don't feel shy to explore the pubs around the hostel, but we usually drove to Zurich for restaurants. ||All in all, a good, clean accommodation, with very basic facilities and great surroundings. You will come...
Read moreLocation is excellent, not only that it is right by the lake. I was getting off the Glacier Express at Chur and was trying to pack a bus trip to see Liechtenstein that afternoon and position myself to see Zurich the next morning. Richterswil was perfectly located for me to arrive still in daylight and a short ride to Zurich the next day, and I didn't have to backtrack between a Zurich hotel/hostel and the train station.||||However nice the location, the short walk from the station to the hostel was a little tricky. First, since you have to change to a ZVV local S train to get to Richterswil, you can get in from both directions. I didn't know Swiss trains ran on the left, so I came in from the south (Pfaffikon) and ended up on the west platform which required me to use the tunnel, then once on the east/lakeside, I didn't use the east platform to smoothly drag my wheeled bag along the length of the platform toward the hostel, which would greatly reduce the rough path's length. (So the right way to come in from the south is get off at Wadenswil and ride backward.)||||Some hostels allow wifi in common areas only, but this one is in room, which is nice.||||Only complain is bathroom lights have motion sensors, and in-stall activity is beyond the sensible zone. Fortunately I didn't have to feel the toilet paper in the dark, but I did have to open the shower door to wave my wet arm outside to...
Read moreA lovely pace to stay and very friendly staff. Very quiet at night and brilliant location right next to railway station and lake. No guest kitchen but very accommodating to allow use of their kitchen sinks to prepare food and a microwave, plates, glasses and a kettle are provided. No problem with eating own food in their dining area including own wine. staff also do the washing up for you.!||Shared showers were split by sex and fine but toilets mixed male and female which teenage girls found a bit uncomfortable. Only 4 toilets per floor which wasn't good when one blocked and the other needed cleaning. However, if you can cope with campsite - like facilities it is fine and staff...
