Review for Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz, and I can confidently say that it was a remarkable experience, combining luxury, comfort, and unparalleled service. While there are always areas for improvement, the overall quality of my stay was phenomenal, thanks to the exceptional staff, prime location, and well-curated amenities.
Highlights of the Stay
Exceptional Staff and Service
The Concierge team, including Simone, Diego, and Christian, deserves special recognition for their professionalism, warmth, and expertise. They anticipated every need, assisting with reservations at some of the best restaurants (Tal, Buena Vista, Langusaria, and Piz Nair), organizing unique activities like sleigh rides, train tickets, and horse carriage rides, and providing insightful recommendations. Their kindness and attention to detail made my stay seamless and memorable.
The team at the ski shop was another standout. Their deep knowledge of equipment and willingness to assist with every detail—from adjusting skis to helping with boots—was extraordinary. The women in the clothing and ski outfit shop were equally remarkable, demonstrating excellent product knowledge and a keen ability to meet guest needs.
Additionally, the lobby bar staff consistently delivered high-quality drinks and excellent service, creating a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.
Prime Location and Amenities
The hotel’s location near the mountains offers breathtaking views and convenient access to skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. The combination of the serene alpine environment and the hotel’s luxurious offerings makes this an ideal destination for relaxation and adventure.
The amenities were fairly new and well-maintained, reflecting the Kempinski brand’s dedication to quality. However, the rooms could benefit from improved humidity control, as the air felt quite dry, particularly during the night. While a humidifier was provided in one room, its coverage was insufficient for the entire suite.
Dining Experience
The dining options were fantastic overall, but there is room for improvement. While the continental breakfast was enjoyable, the omelette station could feature a wider variety of toppings, and additional options like eggs Benedict and fresh juices would elevate the experience further. The restaurants on-site provided excellent food, and the ambiance was delightful.
The Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz provides a luxurious and memorable experience, thanks largely to its exceptional staff, prime location, and high-quality amenities. While there are areas for improvement, particularly with the cigar lounge, shower pressure, and breakfast variety, these issues were minor compared to the overall excellence of the stay.
From the concierge and ski shop staff to the dining experiences and breathtaking mountain setting, Kempinski has succeeded in delivering an exceptional level of service and hospitality. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a luxury retreat in St. Moritz, and I look forward to returning...
Read moreThis was a really mixed visit. I'm not sure whether we had a less positive experience because they had only just opened for the season but I was disappointed our stay didn't live up to expectations.
Bad: Our shower knob broke and we were unable to have properly hot showers - it was never fixed (or explained) despite reporting the issue. I ended up crouching in the bath on the second morning rather than freezing. We were told at check-in that we had 80CHF to use as credit at the Lobby Bar but we were embarrassed to be turned away. Apparently credit can normally be used at their other restaurant which was closed so we had to go to Les Saisons again. We could use 70CHF credit against the a la carte menu but no one explained that the prior night. It seems to be a Swiss thing but don't expect a proper, full sized quilt - instead you have to make do with two even if the bed is set up as a king. Housekeeping kept moving things to where they preferred them which seems odd (if I've moved the tissues to the bedside table it's because they are needed there). They also disturbed us getting ready in the morning, requesting to make up the room before we had even gone to breakfast. No kettle and tea or iron in the room and provided on request only. For a hotel based in Switzerland to only serve bottled water, which we all know is bad for the environment, is ludicrous. At 10CHF when the tap water is the best in the world is just ridiculous. The blue lighting around the light switches was too bright to sleep with so we ended up having to find ways to cover them up.
Good: Our standard room was still a nice size with lots of storage. It was nice to be able to cast to the TV. Great pick-up and drop-off service from the station to the hotel. Super responsive front desk staff via email in advance of the trip, and the Conceirge team were very helpful recommending walks etc. Beautiful pool and seating area, indoor and out. Food quality and service at Les Saisons was fantastic, both breakfast and dinner (if you excuse the shoddy omelette making). I was really impressed with the team...
