GetCha Hostel & Bistro — Hotel in Taichung

NO HOT WATER!!!

April 2022 Updating my review A year and a bit later since I first stayed here, I figured it wasn't bad the first time. Great location and comfortable beds, so I decided to stay here again. Worst decision... Although they had made some small improvements, such as new lockout curtains. The place is more rundown than last time!! Showers still dirty, now with yellow stains. Broken lift buttons with worn-out signs. Dusty bench tops and malfunctioning QR code scanner for room key. However the staff are still friendly and helpful, but I feel like they are over worked and under staffed. Level 7 female dorms was booked over capacity and most people I asked had no hot water to shower. Staff was very kind and apologetic but I believe this should not have happened in the first place. If it's an old building and limitations than management should cap reservations at what the hot water system can handle!! Not letting the staff having to deal with angry customers.

0ct 2020 - Great location, just at the end of one of the main shopping eating streets. Facilities tho could do with a deep cleaning, shower head was mouldy and doors had stains. Decent soundproofing (being on a busy street), comfortable bedding, although mattress are on the harder side. All in all good hostel, just needs some love and...

I will give zero if I can! Bad hostel that goes back on what it promises. I called their customer service the night before I arrive and discuss if I can move my date to two days later as there is a typhoon luring. I am okay if they say no as the booking terms say cannot change date, I called to discuss and check if they can make an exception . Ms Lai (the customer service) got my bookings, took 10minutes to check and said it is okay to change. I was very glad and refund my Taipei train ticket and book another day of accomodation in Taipei. ||Today at 130pm(day I supposed to check in), I got a shock when Agoda told me Getcha hostel said cannot changed date and take my money. ||In the first place, if it’s not possible then don’t give empty promises. by telling me that you can change my accomodation date, I changed my transport and booked one more night stay at Taipei . Ms Lai of getcha hostel customer service +886 435095396 , you go back on your words and lie to your company! ||Folks - watch out for this dishourable hostel with reservation staff that say yes and change their words later!!! Getcha Hostel was my final accommodation in Taiwan and the culmination of a two-week journey around the vibrant island.

As I travelled with a suitcase and a backpack, it felt difficult to utilize the bus system to arrive at the hostel - most of the transportation in Taichung requires buses or scooters.

When I arrived, they had changed the check-in time (without updating online) so I waited for an hour in the lounge before accessing my room - I would recommend that they communicate this change beforehand.

The hostel felt very modern and secure - you can only access your floor with the individual keycard and via the elevator.

The beds felt spacious although the room was very small. I really appreciate that the beds have a storage unit inside where you can place toiletries and things that do not fit in the storage container.

The major inconvenience that I felt was related to the lack of natural light - there are no windows on the seventh floor - neither in the rooms, hallway, or bathroom which made it feel slightly gloomy. I only stayed two nights which was the perfect amount of time...
