We stayed here for a few nights during our visit to XLQ. Having never been to XLQ before, we had a few hiccups, but the extremely kind and helpful staff here helped us figure things out. On our first day, we first went to the wrong address due to a quirk in google maps, and they were very helpful in sending me the correct address. It is a 20-something minute walk from the private ferry harbor so I'd recommend a taxi if you have luggage with you. The hotel itself is in a quieter area of the island, which makes it feel very peaceful. The check in process was smooth and they give you maps and a bit of an orientation to the island, like where all the food is, where the beaches are, where you can and can't swim, etc. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. The shower is nice (water gets hot quickly and has good water pressure) and there is a bidet (although it has very high water pressure, so be prepared). Any issues we had during our stay were promptly dealt with. Midway through our stay when we got lost in the middle of the island, one of the hotel staff even came to rescue us in the hotel vehicle, which was above and beyond. He was really nice about it, too, even though it was clearly our stupidity that resulted in us getting lost. They may not have the bandwidth to do this kind of thing during busier times, but we appreciated their...
Read moreIf you don't prearrange a pick-up, you'll need to rent bikes from the harbour to get to the hotel, and have the bike rental shop transfer your luggage over. That's what we did and it was relatively hassle free.
Rooms are OK -- spacious, clean and decent amenities. Your view from the balcony is likely to be of the aquarium's green roof, which is located just next door. I guess this is part of the ironic Wes Anderson look, along with the blue and white paint and piped music.
There are minimal refreshments available at the reception, water, ice and coffee (which is pretty good).
Breakfast consists of NT50 vouchers (per person), which you have to redeem at a Taiwanese breakfast take-away that is located about 1.5km away. It has no seating at all and is strictly take-away. You will need a bike to get there. This can become an ordeal in the rain, which happened to us on both days.
You can arrange activities at the counter, such as snorkelling, SUP, night walks, etc. Do remember to bring sufficient cash, as you will need to pay for everything in cash.
The hotel staff at the reception are generally transactional and not very approachable. They help to transfer your luggage to the harbour upon checkout. Unfortunately, one of them broke the pull handle on our luggage when doing so, without an apology.

Read moreSo happy we chose this place to stay 2 nights. Very friendly staff, excellent free coffee on tap all day, rooms were spacious and the shower was large and very strong water pressure and nice and hot. Rooms were clean with large balcony overlooking farm animals at the aquarium. Wifi was good. Only downside was that it isn’t in the city area so you need to ride scooter for 5 mins to get to shops/ restaurants, 7-11 etc. but if you rent scooters (you need to at XiaoLiuqiu in my opinion) it’s no issue at all! Also, if you go in peak season (summer) it might be noisy as people will stay up and talk/drink on their balcony. We went in winter so it was very quiet and we almost had the place to ourselves :-) Would...
