Gateway Lodge II — Hotel in Arusha

We stayed here for 11 days while we were recovering from bad colds before we set out on safari. We loved our room, which had a captivating view of the lively street below us. Receptionist Lucia chose the room especially for its northerly aspect so we would have warmth and healing sunlight all day. Thank you Lucia! The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space for us to spread out and relax for our extended stay. Breakfast was nutritious and varied — not just the same couple of things every day. The room was moderately priced, and we would recommend the hotel to travellers who would like to stay a while in the real Arusha, not just wait for their safari in a plush multi-storey hotel. Arusha is an attractive, friendly city with a mild climate, and should be considered a destination for international travellers in its own right. Gateway 2 is an easy and interesting walk to two of Arusha’s biggest markets, as well as the very western-style “Shoppers” supermarket. Staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but I felt put in an uncomfortable situation. Due to a miscommunication with my booking, I needed to change rooms but this was not communicated well so that my belongings were moved whilst I was out without my permission or consent.|The rooms were clean and comfortable however the showers were awful, either scalding hot or freezing cold with no power.
