The grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. The manager was really welcoming and even helped my husband get an item we needed for shower. However, they need help to really understand international travelers needs. This place has the potential to be a good choice in the future! Right now they have several problems to fix: no hot water; rooms are cold and there is no heat; the blankets are super allergic; rooms do not have Wifi and the Wifi at the reception does not work (basically no internet service). They did not give soap or other things we needed until super late on the day (around 9pm someone came with soap). Dinner and breakfast have limited food choices (good food but few options). They do not have good selection of drinks and only two types of wine. The part that made my family really upset was the fact that they were doing super loud construction work after dinner (fixing a hot water tank on top of our roof) for over one hour and half! We had a baby with us and we wanted to simply go to bed after dinner, but they kept banging and making super loud noises above our room despite our attempts to ask them to stop. the workers did not understand me and did not speak English. My husband was so upset he recorded it and I went to speak to the only staff available who spoke English and asked her to tell them to stop. Still nothing happened and they kept going until after 10pm. At that point I went outside my room and made gestures and told them very firmly that it was unacceptable and they needed to stop immediately so that we could put the baby to sleep. You can probably picture the horrible scenario of a mom trying to rest after a long Safari day and trying to put the baby to sleep, making hand gestures and saying stop to the workers! They finally stopped! To me that was unacceptable! It was already somewhat loud from the road (because the hotel is located on a major road) but the noises from the road we could tolerate. Construction on top of our roof at 10pm definitively no! If they were worried about fixing the hot water, too late, we had already taken cold showers and everyone else in the hotel that we spoke with also had cold showers. It was really cold at night and without heat and proper anti-allergic blankets we were very uncomfortable! I honestly believe that if they fix all those problems and provide proper training to staff, they will do well in the future. To be fair, the manager and restaurant staff deserve the credit...
Read moreThis review is for the Green Hills luxury tented camp inside the Serengeti National Park. We stayed 1 night in June 2019 booked by our tour company, KiliExcursions. We weren't really sure what to expect of a 'mobile luxury tented camp' but we absolutely loved it and wish we could have stayed longer! ||||Hospitality: Upon arrival, we were greeted with fresh juice and a moist face towel. Manager Andrea then told us more about the camp and the wild animals that regularly roam close to the camp (Lions, Hippos, etc). Staff were friendly and informative. Good location in Rongai, central Serengeti. The camp is great for a mid-range budget. ||||Tent: We unzipped our private tent to find a beautiful interior (see pics) with comfortable beds, tables, lamps, wash basin, toilet (western style with flush), and shower cubicle. 20L of hot water for showering was provided on request. Water bottles were provided for drinking. (AC was not required as it is cool at night in the Serengeti and the tent kept out any mosquitoes/insects). The view was gorgeous. ||||Food: Dinner was a delicious 3 course meal: pumpkin soup, beef with rice and veggies in a coconut sauce, and banana fritter. Breakfast was British style bacon, eggs, toast and pancake. We enjoyed sitting with our guide for meals and chatting with Andrea. ||||Power: Plenty of power outlets in the main tent to charge phones, cameras, etc. Wifi was not operational on the night we visited (but we enjoyed the great escape). ||||Animals: I saw two hippos at 1am about 5m from the entrance to our tent! They were happily eating some of tall grass as I watched quietly through the netted window. I remembered the introductory information given by Andrea so I wasn't worried or scared. (Hippos are mostly herbivores and will only attack if disturbed). Indeed, I was delighted to see them. The rest of the night was peaceful with only occasional Serengeti sounds. ||||Overall, a really unique experience at the Green Hills Serengeti Camp. I would definitely recommend staying here to truly experience the magic of...
