We stayed two nights at the Beachcomber to relax after long flights before heading off on safari. |One point of note : the standard airport taxi rate is 50 US dollars, the hotel did offer me an airport pick up of 35 dollars. I discovered there's no negotiation at the airport! |The hotel has so much going for it. Room, bathroom, shower are all excellent. Lovely balcony on every room. TV kettle, bottles of water, it's top class. |There's a great pool and you can wander down to the beach too from the pool. We were there are the weekend and there were some swimming lessons and a birthday party poolside. The pool is quite large for a hotel. |Food is lovely, great selection in the restaurant and very tasty. |However, unfortunately, hospitality is zero! |The pool and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful but front of house was non existent. It's such a pity as this hotel is so ideal for a recharge after flights or safari or if a person doesn't have enough time to go to Zanzibar. |When we arrived we weren't told anything about the hotel, we just signed a firm and were led up to our room. I didn't know if they had found my online booking or what I would be charged. |When I enquired at the reception about bus tickets I was met with complete disinterest and the receptionist used my cell phone to call the bus station! She then tried to convince me to use her taxi friend instead for 200 dollars and could offer me no alternative. There were no brochures or flyers of excursions or activities in the area and she really wanted to go back chatting to her friend whose conversation I had interrupted. |We did meet a helpful receptionist on the 2nd evening who booked a bajaji for us and arranged that breakfast would be ready for us for 7 the next morning. |The Beachcomber has such potential and could attract so many international travellers, unfortunately the total lack of interest at front of house...
Read moreI did love the location of the hotel at the beach. The rooms are very cozy with nice decorations. First we got a room at the poolside which we changed for a room at the backside because we wanted a quiet room. Later that day we were glad we did because it can be rather noisy at the poolside, as we found out later on.||||We loved the food in the restaurant, the big pool and small but nice beach. Because there were not that many guests we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere around the pool and on the beach. We really thought this place was perfect for the money you pay until Friday afternoon. All of a sudden many, many children appeared for their swimming lessons in "our" pool! From paradise we landed in a public swimming pool. ||||The noise was so overwhelming we could hardly speak to each other. At the end of the day all children disappeared and paradise came back. We thought we were lucky it should be Saturday the next day, so no school day and no swimming lessons. But it even got worse: on Saturday two big sound boxes of 2 m by 1 m appeared on the beach producing loud music all day. And we were in a public swimming pool again because people from all over Dar es Salaam came to the hotel to enjoy their day around the pool.||||It is such a pity: the hotel could really be a small paradise. I personally think the owner should make a choice: or you have a hotel or you have a public swimming pool. You...
Read moreWe stayed here with a large group for two nights in August 2018. Location is great, especially if you are planning a trip to Mbudya Island - which the hotel can arrange. We enjoyed our stay and the manager was helpful. This hotel has big potential - it could be a really nice venue - but it needs some money spent on it! I guess you do get what you pay for and this is one of the cheaper hotels in North Beach, which is why we went for it. However it is tired! I didn't see a light fitting where one or more of the bulbs wasn't working! The metal swimming pool steps had the metal frames - but no actual steps! There was a plank of wood missing from the steps leading up to the wooden banda. These are simple things to fix and not that costly, so why are they not being fixed? The buildings could do with a fresh coat of paint, and the bathrooms definitely need updating. And for some reason, the waiters and bar tenders didn't seem as though they knew what they were doing! It's a shame that maintenance is lacking as this could be a great hotel with a little more care...
