I've stayed here in this charming old bungalow multiple times since 2012, in all 5 rooms around the courtyard ( m,y favorite is Mr Ton because of the cool windows and the view of life in the building behind, but the wifi is better in rooms 1-2). Michelle is big hearted with great stories and a droll sense of humor, and the staff are friendly and attentive. On long stays they become family, while on short stays, on feels at home amidst the cool verandahs, books and lamps. Most evenings the bar/lounge has a mix of interesting characters - locals, tourists and expats. A nice view of the Uluguru mountains from the front garden, and well located - one can walk to King Tom bar for live music, as well as daladala stand and market area is just 15 min easy stroll away. One can also go uphill for nice strolls on quiet roads. Its not for people who like antiseptic business hotels. The breakfast (included ) is amongst the best i have had anywhere in the world. One has to knock on the kitchen door and order. Or one can ask for breakfast at a certain time the night before. Bathroom water pressure is sometimes low, but thats a small price to pay for feeling safe in a charming cozy home. The food is simply superb, probably the only place in town with genuine north american/euro food ( Michelle was a chef in Canada), but one can also get good tanzanian food in town, good indian food at the oasis and green chilly on station road, or stock up on groceries at various supermarkets. my fav there is the beef stir fry - with an enormous helping of many vegetables over superb fries.. all made fresh...
Read moreI was lucky enough to be recommended this hotel by a friend that was also doing research in the area. I stayed in their Lynn Suite for 5 months while I did my work over there. I stayed at many hotels in Tanzania during those 5 months when my work required me to go to another city, but I felt most at home here in the New Acropol Hotel. Michelle the owner, became a good friend of mine during my time there. She showed me the town as it was my first time in Morogoro and helped me out multiple times during my stay there. Her employees were also quite helpful and most of the employees spoke English well, which was good as I was not aware that a knowledge of Swahili is very useful in this part of Tanzania. Before I forget, the food was great. In fact, oftentimes, other places I would stay at would screw up my food, but it was almost always great at the New Acropol Hotel. Sometimes, they would even make something that I asked for specifically because I missed it from the US so much. As one last piece of evidence for how great this place is, I made up a profile just to leave this review. There is so much I could say about this place as it was my home for 5 months, but I can't fit all here. I'll end by simply saying this, I don't think I could have made it through my first time in Africa if I had ended up in another hotel. They truly made me feel at home even though I was thousands of miles...
Read moreI made a last minute booking at Acropole on New Year’s Eve after getting stuck on a late bus from Dar. Me and my husband called to tell them we would be getting in late and if the kitchen would be open late for the holiday. When we arrived at 11:47PM we were the only people in the place. By midnight we were relaxing on the couches with wine and hot cheese burgers and fries in front of us. Unfortunately because our travels were to continue, when asked about breakfast we told them we would be leaving at 5AM. They were happy to wake up at 4 to serve us a full breakfast so we wouldn’t continue our trip hungry. Everything was 5000% stressfree and exactly what we needed. We owe them everything for saving our holiday!!! ||The room was HUGE and super clean with a lovely courtyard. Wish we could have...
