First of all this place has bed bugs. My husband woke up with a bed bug crawling on his leg and I woke up with over 20 bed bug bites. The first night I thought it was just mosquito bites but bedbugs bite in a distinctive type of way where they will bite you multiple times in the same area, whereas mosquitoes Will only bite you once maybe twice in the same area. I did speak to the woman in charge, an Italian lady. I explained to her the situation, wanting to hear what steps she would take to remedy this problem. Instead she gave me a discount on my bill, (well appreciated) and explained to me that a family came in August and they also complained about getting bit in the room. However, the mans wife and child did not appear to have bites, and so she dismissed their claims as something unrelated to her hotel. She said, since the father was the only one with the bites, then he must of gotten the bites on a boat trip, and since I also took a boat trip with my crew, I must’ve gotten the bites on the boat trip as well. The problem with that explanation is that there are no bedbugs on the boat for one. Secondly, we all went on the boat so we should all have bites by that reasoning. The fact of the matter is, not everyone reacts to bug bites. You can get bit and not have a bump or a visible mark. So the husband that woke up with plenty of bites, all over his body and his wife, who woke up with zero bites all over his body only woke up that way because she and the child did not have an allergic reaction to the bedbugs. Sometimes you can catch malaria through mosquito bites without even seeing any mosquito bite on your body, this is the same concept. We do not all show visible Allergic reactions to bug bites. I explained this to the lady, however, it seemed as though she did not want to accept it, which lets me know she will not be correcting the issue because she does not believe that there is an issue. I just want to warn anybody who may be thinking of staying there, if you wake up with bites, do not let that lady tell you that you got it from the boat, surely you would see the bugs in the daytime on a boat. The bugs are in your bed. They bite at night when you sleep thats how they go unnoticed and thrive. 4+ of the people in my group also complained about waking up with bites all over their body. However, they did not know it was bedbug bites until after we left the hotel and we all spoke about it together. Bed bugs are easy to catch and have nothing to do with cleanliness, this hotel is very clean. Bedbugs tend to lay eggs in your belongings and soon after they infest your home when you bring your things back with you. They are very hard to get rid of but it is possible if you take the matter seriously and research the correct methods or hire a reputable professional in this area. ||My second issue with this place is the timings for the restaurant. You can’t bring food in according to the rules and regulations. You can’t eat in your room, according to the rules and regulations pamphlet that you can find in the room. The restaurant is only open from|| 7:30 AM to 10:30 for breakfast. ||12:30 to 3:30 for lunch. ||And 7 pm to 10 pm for dinner.||This hotel attracts people from all over the world on different time zones and I think it’s very inconsiderate to not have food available for your customers at all times. We are on vacation we want to eat well, that is one of the fun aspects of being on vacation. I found myself complaining multiple times to the kitchen because I was hungry when they weren’t open. I understand your chef needs a break but find a way to keep it open, hire someone else, or train the staff. Im skinny and I dont even eat a lot. However, the food itself was decent. The menu does not have many options though so pray you find something you like. ||The bedroom floor needs a little carpet or some slippers, its hard and cold and tends to get sandy fast , but this hotel does not offer any room slippers or toothpaste, or toothbrush, you have to pay for everything additionally. 3$ for toothpaste only, something that is usually complementary in hotels. The rooms are very basic. They did put some cute flowers and towel decorations on my bed for my honeymoon and that was beautiful and appreciated . There’s no phone in the room there’s no television in the room. It’s very basic with a lot of potential if they were to do things right and think about heightening the experience of their guest above other less important aspects. They need to focus on the experience of their guests more. I also had shisha and the shisha service was below standard. Its like the shisha guy had no experience dealing with shisha , i had to call him to refresh the coal multiple times,I shouldn’t have to chase you to remind you to maintain the shisha you just sold me. The breakfast buffet is also annoying because you can only have 2 eggs. Options are. Very limited . There are other breads and dry foods you can eat but for someone who doesn’t like processed foods or sugar or is on a keto diet , it would be nice to not be refused additional eggs for breakfast. This hotel really needs to pay attention to what their competition is doing to retain clients because if it keeps going the way it is things wont end well. They need to check out their competition and see how they could improve. There are too many great hotel options in zanzibar to choose from so I cant say I will ever come back here again but I love zanzibar and will...
Read moreRecently, my family and I had the pleasure of staying at the exquisite Opera Hotel. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted with welcome drinks, and our luggage was brought to our rooms swiftly. We were delighted to find immaculately clean and spacious rooms, complete with both air conditioning and ceiling fans for optimal comfort. A thoughtful touch was the window netting, ensuring a bug-free environment—a detail that truly enhanced our stay.
The hospitality at Opera Hotel surpassed our expectations. The gracious hotel owner not only provided exceptional service but also shared invaluable recommendations for excursions, enriching our experience. Additionally, arranging taxi rides through the hotel proved convenient and economical.
Each morning, the pristine pools were meticulously cleaned, inviting us to indulge in refreshing swims. The main pool, shallow and safe, offered a haven for children to frolic and play, adding to the overall charm and appeal of our stay.
The culinary experience at the restaurant was a true delight, offering a plethora of delectable options. From breakfast to dinner, each dish exuded freshness and was crafted with care, boasting generous portions that kept us satiated for hours. Even my picky daughter found the hotel's accommodating approach to her dietary preferences commendable. Their gesture of packing food for our early flight was both generous and heartwarming, showcasing their dedication to guest satisfaction.
The warmth and hospitality of the staff were unparalleled. Every team member greeted us with genuine smiles and eagerness to assist with any request. The hotel owner's personal touch was particularly memorable, as she invested time in getting to know each guest, ensuring a personalized and welcoming atmosphere throughout our stay.
To celebrate our birthdays, my daughter and I were pleasantly surprised with beautifully adorned beds—a thoughtful gesture that made our special day even more memorable.
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Stonetown, the hotel's location offered a tranquil retreat. For those craving beachside relaxation, a leisurely 20-minute stroll or a quick 10-minute taxi ride led to the nearest beach. Alternatively, guests could unwind at the intimate adults-only spa and pool area, perfect for moments of serenity and rejuvenation.
While the hotel primarily caters to adults seeking relaxation, families with children can still enjoy the pool area. However, beyond this, there aren't many dedicated amenities for young ones. To enhance our daughter's experience, we brought along pool floats, adding an extra layer of fun to her swimming sessions.
Overall, our stay at Opera Hotel surpassed all expectations, earning its place among my favourite accommodations. I eagerly anticipate returning with my family and extend heartfelt gratitude to the entire team for an...
Read moreI stayed here for 14 days, and I’ve traveled to many countries and stayed in many hotels — but this is by far the best hotel I’ve ever been to! Thank you, Opera, for making my stay so wonderful!
The hotel is exceptionally clean. As someone who suffers from anxiety and OCD, this was absolutely perfect for me.
The rooms are spacious, modern, and beautifully designed. I especially loved the bathroom — spotless and with excellent hygiene standards!
Breakfast was different every day, and the food was so good that I actually went to bed excited about what I’d get to eat in the morning! 🥹
One of my favorite things about this hotel is that it’s not overcrowded. It’s a unique size hotel — not too big, not too small — which makes it feel cozy and relaxing!
I especially appreciated the staff, particularly the lovely Italian lady I had such nice conversations with. She truly listened to my needs and even helped me with the Wi-Fi and coffee (sending a big hug to you!).
The exterior of the hotel is perfect, with a beautiful pool and an amazing view! 😍 The owners are really cool, too. And so is the staff! Didn’t have any problems with any staff.
Another thing that made me so happy was how quiet it was. I couldn’t hear a single sound while sleeping, which is rare and so appreciated.
Everything in my room worked perfectly — no broken fixtures or issues, unlike many other hotels I’ve experienced.
I also loved the thoughtful cleaning system: instead of someone knocking every day to clean the room, I could simply give my keys to reception when I wanted the room cleaned. Waaaay better system! ❤️
Rio Beach is like 5 mins away and and the other beach is 10 minutes away!
I can’t find any critique to this hotel, which I have never ever seen before!
Overall, this place is a true gem. I’ll never forget...
