Stayed here for 4 months while teaching at a local school. The rooms are very clean and modern with a great shower and hot water. We got a room with a fridge and sink which was so helpful in being able to make some of our own food. There is laundry (40bt per load) on the top floor with lots of room to hang all of your clothes to dry. The 5th floor is reserved for smoking rooms but the rest is non smoking. The air con works very well. Beds are fairly comfortable considering most of the hard beds in Thailand. The staff are just lovely. They don't speak a lot of English but I can usually get what I need from them. The building is quite secure. You need a key card to enter the building and to get up the stairs/elevator. Walk out the front door and there is a huge market as well as a mall with a grocery store. There are lots of massage places with great prices too (300bt for 2 hours!) The river is right next to the building and you can watch the sunset behind the river. My only real complaint here is the wifi. In 4 months we have never had one solid night of uninterrupted wifi. It will work, so if you just need it to look for your next hotel, you will be ok, but trying to do work with it - you'll be...
Read moreI have stayed at the Rachan for 2 nights mid December 2014 and i must say it was great.||Me and my girlfriend took a Deluxe Double Bed breakfast included for a great price over a hotel booking portal and it was great value for money.||The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed, very nice bathroom (i assume just renovated) and a little kitchen with fridge. A great view of the sunrise and the busy market (a real Thai one, not the usual tourist market) included. ||Breakfast was very good, you could either take a continental resp. English breakfast or select between 2 warm Thai dishes. ||The hotel staff could hardly speak English, although they were very helpful as we needed urgent information. All in all very good and always recommendable, as it is the city of Chanthaburi. Worth a stay if you'd like to feel the real Thailand and a little Christian and Thai history (a beautiful church can be found not too far from...
Read moreReally clean, great rooms with good room service. The staff are friendly and helpful although it would help for someone on duty to speak English....even bad English would be better than none. The breakfast lady was wonderful. It would help if tea and coffee or even a jug to boil water was available in rooms. The Robinson Store across the road has the best air-conditioned Resturant with fabulous Dim Sim type food and the coldest Mango and other slushies. The Gem Market is a short taxi ride away.....none of the Taxi drivers spoke English which created some interesting taxi rides. Ask for the wonderful Ken the Canadian at the Gem Market.....he speaks English and will help...
