Chanthana Phochana (Local Cuisine) This is my second visit to Chanthana Phochana, an established local restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, served in large portions, with prices that reflect the generous serving sizes. A downside is the dining atmosphere during the day; I found it to be quite hot despite the use of fans. My friend wanted to try two signature dishes: Gaeng Moo Cha Muang (Pork Belly Curry with Cha Muang Leaves): The pork belly here is excellent—it contains a lot of meat and is cut into substantial chunks. The sauce is thick and rich, with a pleasant balance of sweetness and sourness. Saeng Wa Goong (Prawn "Saeng Wa" Salad): This is a traditional, royal court chili dip menu dating back to King Rama V and featured in the famous "Kap He Chom Khrueang Khao Wan" (a poetic piece praising savory and sweet dishes). Read moreThe environment is great, the restaurant is very nice looking with a lot of sweet and desert to take home. The restaurant is right next to the market so after dinner you can take a stroll looking for stuffs.
This is a famous restaurant for Chantaburi so we had to wait a while for the table. Perhaps it was so busy the service was so so. Since it's an open air restaurant it can get a bit hot and sweaty especially if you ordered some spicy food. They have fans, but still a bit hot.
The food (Thai food) was good but not great. We had Phad Thai with dwarf crabs which was so so, sea bass deep fried in fish sauce was excellent crispy on the outside soft on the inside, glass noodle seafood salad was good as well. For the Tom Yum soup, it's a bit watered down, the seaweed tofu soup was good on the other hand.
Overall, good food the bill was comparable to a premium Bangkok restaurant. A meal for 4 with 4 dishes, 2 soup, and drink...

Original review from 2020: This is a famous local restaurant known for its bay leaf phat cha. It's strange but tasty. Also had the fried mackerel and spicy Thsi herb dip with shrimp. All of it super fresh. They also sell real lemonade which you should try. Grab some black pepper corns, which are a local favourite to take home too. It's a good deal here, three dishes and two drinks for 500 baht was excellent value. Toilets are clean. Waiters are very slow with everything, and forget sometimes, so plan to...
