I stayed here for 10 nights and chose it mostly because its located at a walking distance from the Night Bazaar, the Wat Chedi Luang (a 10 to 15 min. walk to both) and because of the price - it was quite hard to find a non-shared room for less than USD 15, especially an a/c one, very much needed in Chiang Mai.||I got the Superior Room - No Balcony, but upgraded to the one with balcony for less than a couple dollars per night. They gave me a discount because I had a long stay here. Both rooms are small indeed, but I found them comfortable enough. There's a double bed with a firm-but-comfortable mattress, nice pillows and comforter, a small bedside table, cable flat screen TV, and two 0.5L complimentary bottles of water per night. The bathroom is also small but it's not cramped. The water is hot (you can adjust the temperature), the water pressure is good and the towels are big. The a/c works pretty well.||The staff is friendly and kind. Their youngest "staff, Minah, is such a pretty, well behaved and cute little girl! It's a very homey feeling you get here. They provide laundry service at 40 baht/kg and will clean the room upon request. There's indeed a lot of mosquitoes, but I suppose you can just ask for a bug spray. I managed to kill the ones in my room on the first night and didn't get any more uninvited visitors. There's no elevator here and the rooms are located on the 3rd and 4th floor. I also got a 1h foot scrub with massage for THB 350 and it was very good. The sir who did it has a very firm grip, which I prefer and not only my foot and calf are soft and smooth, but the calf pain I was feeling after so much walking is gone!||There's plenty of B&Bs and restaurants on the street where F.K. House is located to have meals. I recommend Da's Home Bakery for their Mixed fruit with Muesli and Yogurt, Addy's Happy Smoothies for their Iced Thai Milk Tea and Iced Coffee Milk, and Lucky Too for their pizzas.||Right on the corner it's Somphet Fresh Food market where, apart from fruit and vegetables, you can buy BBQed meat and fish, small trays of sliced fruits (10 to 20 baht), fruit shakes (40 baht) and some souvenirs - good to have an idea of starting prices before going to the other famous markets. Within 100m you can find a Tesco Lotus Express, a 7-Eleven, ATM, drugstores and local restaurants. I recommend Grazie Thai, I had so many meals there and the dishes are very tasty! I also tried Aroy Dee but for me it was just okay.||For the price, comfort, and location, I'd say it's...
Read moreLovely guesthouse in Old Chiang Mai The house is not large, nor are the rooms but they are adequate, clean, and with bathroom, A/C and TV in each room. What we loved is the kindness of our hosts, the lovely garden and the excellent coffee and breakfast. The location is excellent, a 10 minute walk brings you to the Three King's Monument, the Wat Chedi Luang and many other attractions. They have bikes for rent and given that you are a guest, there is no deposit or passport required, and biking through Chiang Mai makes everything 5 minutes away. Our hosts were very helpful with making reservations, booking trips /excursions, ordering taxis, etc. We also found it very convenient that for all the things we booked we paid at the guesthouse and all we needed was to show the receipt at the place we went. The only downside for me was that the mattress was hard, but that's a matter of taste. Overall we highly...
Read moreWonderful introduction to warm Thai culture and a trendy spot to stay whilst visiting Chiang Mai. Pop, the owner, a warm, a genuinely lovely and thoughtful host who made us feel so welcome when we stumbled in late on our first night in the country. The room was ideal for us, clean and spacious with our own fridge and balcony, with a view of the hills and courtyard come morning. Downstairs is a popular cafe, making breakfast and coffee a real treat every day! Arte House gets a lot of visitors and is photographed a lot, so it tends to bustle after around 11am, which is great if you love people watching. The property is located a little out of the way from the Old City - around 15 mins drive. However, Grab Taxi or jumping on a cheap red taxi from Maya Mall (which is 10 mins walk away) will get you where you need to go. All in all, beautiful host and staff, and a memorable start...
