Was meant to stay here in December 2016 for 3 nights - dont think we even lasted 3 hours. Without doubt one of the worst hotels I have ever seen - it was like living through one of those "when holidays go wrong" shows.||The place is dirty, common areas, pools, rooms - everywhere. The pool area is a mess with broken tiles everywhere and sun loungers are mainly broken plastic chairs with paint on them.||We booked through expedia and fake pictures were used on their website - I should have asked where the hotel in the pictures was as it looks really nice - unlike this sh**hole!||The beach is again dirty and the hotel pumps its waste water right into the middle of the beach so all the water was brown. ||Loads of stray dogs on the beach and they just wonder freely into the resort - sure that is great for people with small kids!||Big groups of male staff hanging around the complex - I think they were staff but hard to tell as most of the staff are dressed in jeans and t-shirts. At one point 5 or 6 of them decided to sit on our patio and have their break from cutting the grass!||To be fair expedia gave me a full refund on a booking I shouldnt have been able to cancel so just used that to book another hotel. ||For anyone that has bookings here I would definatly cancel. As you can see from my other reviews I generally give very good reviews so I am not the type to moan for the sake of it, but this place is a hell hole. If 0 stars were an option it would have got it.||Avoid...
Read moreI pre-paid for a Queen Room with Sea Views that was on the ground floor. The hotel has surprisingly good reviews so I figured it was a safe bet. When I got there my room was on the second floor overlooking the pool, I could barely glimpse the ocean from a corner of the balcony. That I could live with. But the room had a strong musty mouldy smell to it. The aircon sounded like a loud helicopter doing circles about every 10 minutes and was generally noisy and really struggling to cool the room. I couldn't sleep through it and I still felt sticky. So I went to take a shower but no matter which way I turned the tap and how long I kept the water running for, it was ice cold. I didn't have to ask about the restaurant (still up on their website as open) because the Lobby ladies laughed and said upon check-in "There is no restaurant at this hotel. If you want food, you have to walk back to the resto or 7/11" (It's about a 1/2km and no shade). The restaurant, like many buildings on the premises, looked like it had been in disrepair for quite some time. The whole experience felt like a slap in the face. I stayed 1 night out of the 5 I was meant to be there. When I asked for a different room, they either pretended they didn't understand, or they simply didn't have one. I've complained to the booking agent and I want a full refund for the nights I...
Read moreSamui Orchid Resort is a pleasant place on the beach, but is a bit dated and worn down. There are no restaurants on-site, but there is a good restaurant a 100 yards down the beach. At the moment, most of the resort is occupied long term by Russians and hotel guests have access to only one of the three large pools. Our room was clean, although there is some mildew in the shower grouting, which is usual for tropical places. Our bungalow has a small, private pool in front that is about four feet deep. Our room was cleaned with clean towels, clean sheets, and bottled water daily. There is a mini-frig and an electric coffee pot in the room. We compensated for the lack of an on-side restaurant by getting cereal, milk, juice and other easy foods for breakfast and lunch from the convenience store that is an quiet 1/2 mile walk away. We stayed here because of the access to Mahalo Kite School, which is just left of the resort on the beach. If you are a kiter it’s very convenient. Response by the staff to the few problems we have had was prompt and courteous. The beach is shallow and not suitable for swimming, but fine for wading. It’s...
