You cannot get any closer and when the tide is in/high you can actually step off the back stairways straight into the ocean|First time for us to visit Hua Hin and as usual I do a lot of research before we go but couldn’t settle on an actual place this time - for every good review I read there was one bad|This year we had allocated 3 nights for Hua Hin and after already traveling in Thailand for 9 nights we decided to opt for a more relaxing venture |At the last minute and I mean late the night before I opted to book this place for one night with a plan that if we liked it book it for the next two nights|I booked the Suite because it sounded like good value and most of the reviews sounded promising enough - paid 2350 baht |We arrived in our rental car driven from BKK (3 hour trip) at about 4 pm on the Friday afternoon |When we arrived and parking looked difficult if not any but after meeting a receptionist they assured us to drop our bags off in reception and there wouldn’t be too far of a drive to find a spot and sure enough I was soon reversing into a spot just 100 metres away |Soon after all the beach goers went I checked and moved my car too within metres away|Well we checked in opened our suite doors and checked out the two direct ocean views from the verandas of our suite and both agreed to book the next 2 nights but after checking all was booked out it to my disappointment |We went downstairs to check out the restaurant and actually ran into the owner who said he had a crazy day with double bookings and no shows and after a quick chit chat offered us the last available ground floor terrace room for the balance of our stay|We didn’t even ask the the price|I must say the suite was amazing but we also enjoyed the ambiance of the ground floor terrace room with clear view of the ocean and steps away from the small out side pool and rest area|The 3 day jaunt was exactly what we wanted because we were happy to stay at the hotel except for one small tourist attraction visit for a few hours on the Sunday |Not a fancy joint / needs a facelift but very clean / breakfast was your typical average choices / other restaurant meals were very nice / beds were a bit ordinary too|What I liked was there are only about 12 rooms so not that many people to contend with over the facilities |The owners worked hard and always happy to assist and you couldn’t get any closer to...
Read moreFirst of all, I didn't stay at the hotel so I cannot comment on it. This review is about the restaurant. The only positive thing here was the setting. It is right by the beach and off the main road so it was nice and quite. I really wanted to like this restaurant, unfortunately, we had a pretty bad experience here. We came in as a big group (16). Admittedly, it's a big group but we have a reservation so it was not a surprise. They should be prepared. There were 2 other small party tables that night. We ordered our food and it took them 2 hours to complete our orders. We ordered additional drinks while waiting but it also took them forever to give us and one never came. I am talking about soda water here. All they needed to do was to open the bottle and bring it out. The food actually tasted okay, but not impressive enough for what they were charging for (฿50 for a plate of plain steamed rice and ฿40 for a bucket of ice), and the service definitely not worth the 10% service charge. I guess that's the price to pay for being near the beach, which also kills me because they are not even located at the city center. Back to the food, one of our friends I know of got sick. I can't say the restaurant was to blamed but it did happened that night after the dinner. My friend also mentioned one of the waitress asked for tips for takeout one time. The waitress smile disappear when she saw that there was no tips and said "Oh, you pay the exact amount," which is an absolutely ridiculous attitude especially in Thailand. When I paid for my bill, there was supposed to be ฿2 change (which is nothing really) but the waitress didn't bother to give me that. I have been to multiple restaurants where this would not had happened. I probably would have left it anyway, but the problem is their practice. I definitely do not recommend...
Read moreAll else needs significant improvement. Nothing works well except for the stairs, hot water pot and AC! There was dust on the tv case. Everything was pretty much falling apart. The bathroom window could not be closed at all - due to broken plastic latches that could be fixed in minutes before guests check-in as their previous attempts using adhesive tape did not work, obviously. The duvets had holes. When it rained we had rain water coming into the room on two sides. The extra bed was simply a nightmarish hammock. The breakfast was ok. The request at dinner for two pairs of knives and forks took over 10 minutes and was resolved with my walk up to the service station for them. The highlights must be the key drop service. Dropped ours on the way out and looked for reception personnel for the key upon return only to be told we could just open the key drop box to get ours back! Safety and security?! Also we asked for housekeeping service on our way out for lunch and returned app 3 hours later to find the room as we left it. When prompted we were told it was because we did not hang the sign on the door. OK, 1. We were never told to do so in the first place and 2. We asked the owner's wife for the service in person and she acknowledged the request. Housekeeping was sent up to the room only when I asked to borrow a broom and mop so I could clean the room myself. ||||We stayed for three nights and do not think we will ever return. I believe in constructive criticism and really hope the comments above will be taken as such. It is a pity for an ideally situated place - large or small - to be marred by lack of cleanliness, customer service and substandard room amenities. It is okay if things are old but it is not okay if things are falling apart! All the best to the team at White Sand Beach...
