Read moreWe booked this hotel as a last two night stay before we headed back to the UK, this was meant to be a relaxing time but was far from it. We have stayed in over 20+ hotels all over Istanbul ranging from 3-5* so was expecting this to be on the better end.
We arrive at the hotel in a taxi with me, my husband and my two month old baby. At first, we had no-one to help us get all our luggage out the taxi and had to flag down someone who came after 5-10 minutes. Check in was smooth, we asked about the use of a microwave to which the guy stated there is already one in the room (looking at his notes). We then asked if he had any upgrades available, he said yes and moved us to a room with a side view of the bosphorus. He then said that he would have to move the cot and microwave to this room which was fine.
Upon arriving to the room; it was nice and spacious with a huge bathroom. After 15 minutes we noticed our luggage hadn’t been brought to the room and my baby needed his stuff so I had called down. After another 20 minutes it still had not arrived so my husband called down. We then waiting another further 20 minutes until it was brought to our room, I understand it may have been busy but wish it was communicated to us so we could have come down and got it all ourselves.
The microwave did not get brought to the room so we had this escalated to the duty manager who had explained that they don’t offer this service (even though I was told over messages and during check in that they can). I explained that I would not have booked this room if I did not know there wouldn’t be one available. I felt during the conversation I was being told I was a liar as the manager stated his staff would never say that etc. luckily I did have the messages from the booking to prove that I had previously asked and got told it would be accommodated. It then got brought down to ‘miscommunication/understanding’. I strongly believe that if there is a chance of miscommunication of English to Turkish then more appropriate staff should be handling the communications to avoid this error.
The chef from breakfast was very nice and sterilised my bottles and brought it to us.
At 10:30pm at night we had housekeeping turn up to the door asking to clean the room. He had knocked three times before we opened the door and stated that front office had sent him. I called down to front office and they apologised for this as it’s another miscommunication.
The pool was lovely and staff around the pool were very accommodating. Loved the use of the cabanas as gave us the privacy we needed.
I just felt for a 5* hotel there was a lot of mishaps which definitely need fixing to prevent future unhappy stayers. I did ask for the general managers contact details but was just given the...
Read moreApart from the Hyatt House hotel in Gebze which is not really Istanbul anyway, I had previously stayed at all Hyatt properties in Istanbul except Hyatt Regency so I wanted to give it a try during a quick overnight from IST airport. While the hotel is possibly the nicest of all Hyatts in the city, the location is by far the worst of the group so it will be a great or poor fit for various travelers, depending on individual preferences.
Hyatt Regency used to be in a convenient location near the old Istanbul airport but since the opening of the new airport 45 km away, the location simply does not work anymore. Despite not being in the busy city center, the drive from the new airport is not shorter than for other Hyatts, and for longer stays, being away from city center is not very convenient. There is now almost no upside of staying there.
I was proactively upgraded to a suite as Globalist guest and the suite looked great for a Regency – in fact the quality of the hardware could be compared more to a Grand Hyatt. The room had several tech features including a TV in the bathroom mirror, nice hardwood floors, and decent quality furniture. In comparison, Grand Hyatt Istanbul has aging rooms which is why I preferred the suite at HR by far. The problem of Hyatt Centric is not the quality of the room but simply that suites are simply larger rooms so HR (and GH) have more space available and proper suites, also both GH and HR have 1.5 bath in the suites but not Centric. Finally, Park Hyatt is weak on all metrics: small suites, not high quality, and not spacious. So HR wins in pretty much all regards for the room in my opinion.
The hotel is near the sea so some rooms have nice views. On my side of the building the view was partially blocked by a new tower in front.
Unfortunately I arrived too late to try happy hour, and anyway the lounge is currently closed although they offer a happy hour alternative in the restaurant which I heard is excellent.
For breakfast I asked if we could get room service the next day because we arrived very late and would also wake up late, and unsurprisingly they initially said no – the Globalist breakfast benefit is in the restaurant only. However as a gesture of goodwill they accepted to take an in-room dining order which was greatly appreciated.
Overall HR is a nice hotel but location will only work for some guests. The hotel could be considered somewhat of a resort with nice sea views for guests who intend to spend a fair amount of time on the property. However as a base to explore the city, Grand Hyatt would be the best Hyatt hotel, and PH/HC...
