Hotel Grand Side — Hotel in Manavgat

I admit, I have never been a big fan of the all-inclusive, super-touristy type resorts, so perhaps it's just not my thing. Our time at the Grand Side had ups and downs. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but also quite pushy. We found ourselves dreading the walk to dinner because the nice but very persistent photographer was always there trying to get us to pay for a cheesy photo shoot in front of the pool at sunset. And he never gave up, no matter how many times we tried to explain that we were not interested.||||Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we had to wait over 2 hours. This wasn't a big deal, and I wouldn't normally care except that I was pregnant and exhausted and really wanted to lie down. When we finally got a room, it was clearly one they don't normally use, and they said we would have to move the next day. This room was bizarre. Dark with low ceilings, and although it was on the ground floor facing out towards the beach, the windows had been completely frosted over so very little light got in, and the potentially very nice view was erased from sight. Why they would do this? My husband and I were completely baffled, and had to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. The room we were moved to the next day was much nicer and had real windows that one could actually see through! ||||Overall the food was fine, generally mediocre with a few quite good things, pretty monotonous. But I think that's to be expected with these all-inclusive buffets.||||The beach was beautiful, though we got unlucky with the weather. It was only warm enough to go into the sea once, and the pool (which is small) was absolutely freezing. The water slides were off the whole time we were there. We ended up spending most of our time sitting on the beach (when it wasn't too cold and windy) or in bed reading. So it made for a relaxing but also somewhat boring trip. ||||We did have a very nice treatment in the Turkish bath/spa, with a body scrub and massage which was really nice. ||||All of that said, for the price, it's a good deal. The hotel is nice, clean and pretty modern. The staff are friendly, the food is decent enough and it's directly on the beautiful beach. You can walk (about 45 min-1 hour) or take a little local bus into the town of Side. The ancient ruins are well worth the trip, but don't expect an authentic Turkish experience, this town caters to...

I feel left out. My kids feel left out.|Since we don't speak Turkish, nor German, there is literally no one in the whole resort to speak to.|99prc of the guests are Germans, and whilst it is not a bad thing ( exceptioneel for ALL of the lounges outside being taken by 06:15... (Trust me, I checked!)), it is frustrating and quite limiting.|Specially for the kids when they want to join activities at the kids club.|Luckily, the resort is in good shape, the slides are fun (this is not a huge watermark... Just 5 good slides), the pools are good, the beach is clean, the fitness Centre is amazing (above expectations), the food is good albeit boring after a few days (No theme nights or specials... Every day is "special", i.e., same same), the room that we had was very very good (family room. Comprising of a double and a twin, 2 bathrooms).||I wish I had known about the lack of ethical and national diversity before I booked because it has affected our vacation. Instead of seeing the kids have fun with other kids (8 and 10)and be independent, we had to spend a large part of our time entertaining them, and that's not what you go to an inclusive resort after all.||Speaking of all imclusive, beware that|Internet costs 20euro per device for 14 days (bring a computer or a wifi to wifi router to share the connection rather than pay per device)|Only very basic alcohol is included. Wir, zwei Paare, geben dem Hotel solide und gut gemeinte drei Sterne, weil noch Luft nach oben ist. Vom Flughafen ca. eine Stunde entfernt. Bei Ankunft wurde von uns für ein Zimmer mit Meerblick (und direkt über dem Pool, was wir zu dem Zeitpunkt nicht wussten) ein Aufpreis von 4€ pro Tag, pro Person kassiert. Unter Gastfreundschaft verstehen wir etwas anderes, zumal das Hotel nicht ausgebucht war. Die Größe des Zimmers war ok, allerdings sind die Spiegel verziert und bei der Duschtür fehlt die Gummilippe, so dass das Bad ständig unter Wasser stand. Das Problem ist bekannt, wird aber nicht behoben. Da wir mittags, allerdings nach 12:30 Uhr angekommen sind, gab es für uns keine Strandtücher mehr, was uns sehr verärgert hat. Nach dem Flug hätten wir uns gerne abgekühlt. War nicht möglich. Da muss dringend eine andere Lösung gefunden werden. (Die Duschtücher sind am Pool/Strand verboten!) Betten waren in Ordnung, Sauberkeit zufriedenstellend, Balkontür hält den meisten Lärm ab, Minibar wurde täglich mit Wasser, Cola, etc. aufgefüllt. An den Bars wird stilles Wasser ausschließlich in 200ml-Plastikpäckchen ausgegeben. Hier sollte auch eine andere Lösung gefunden werden. Poolliegen wurden gegen Trinkgeld schon morgens um 6 Uhr reserviert. Man muss also früh aufstehen um sich einen Platt zu sichern. An 9 Uhr sind alle Liegen belegt, auch wenn die Leute erst am Mittag ihre Liegen wirklich nutzen. Die Strandbar ist von 11-17 Uhr geöffnet. Nur dort bekommt man Bohnenkaffee, Eiskaffee, Sex on the Beach und Piña Colada. Ist uns schleierhaft warum die anderen Bars das nicht ausgeben. Die anderen Cocktails und alkoholischen Getränke waren für mich ungenießbar, weil es kein internationaler Alkohol ist. Für mich schmeckte alles nach Benzin. Auch der Wein. Die kostenpflichtigen Getränke sind im Preis-Leistungsverhältnis unangemessen. Sie werden u.a. mit Sirup statt mit Saft zubereitet und für das Geld stimmt auch die Menge nicht. Der Service war die meiste Zeit top. Besonders möchte ich Gulsah loben. Obwohl das Personal meistens sehr freundlich und schnell ist, sticht sie durch ihre Herzlichkeit und Aufmerksamkeit deutlich heraus. Das Animationsteam ist lustig drauf, ohne zu nerven. Der DJ muss dringend an seiner Arbeitseinstellung arbeiten. Er hat die Wünsche der Gäste zu erfüllen und sitzt nicht in seinem Wohnzimmer. Aus dem Gästebetreuer sind wir nicht schlau geworden. Seine Ausstrahlung war recht aggressiv. Er scheuchte das Personal durch die Gegend und überwachte das Geschehen, mit den Gästen hat er sich so gut wie gar nicht beschäftigt. Kein Lächeln, nichts. Am Wochenende gab es keine Animation und auch die Musik, die sonst zumindest bis 22:30 Uhr gespielt wurde, blieb aus. Am Samstag gab ein Duo sein bestes, aber uns tat es in den Ohren weh, so dass wir frühzeitig ins Bett gegangen sind. Wir hatten in beiden Zimmern Probleme mit der Tür und der Technik. Es wurde sich darum gekümmert, hat aber einige Zeit in Anspruch genommen. Mehrfach mussten wir uns neue Karten an der Rezeption abholen. Also immer durch die ganze Anlage laufen. Zuvorkommend wäre es gewesen, man hätte uns die Karte gebracht. Speisen gab es in Hülle und Fülle. Leider fehlte uns die Abwechslung und die landestypischen Gewürze. Wer es braucht bekommt auch Pommes&Nuggets. Es gab Themenabende im Restaurant. Geschmacklich leider nicht getroffen. Satt wurde man trotzdem. Uns fehlte ein Mitternachtssnack. Viele Leute, die abends länger zusammen saßen, hätten gerne nochmal ein Häppchen zu sich genommen, zumal die Bar bis 2 Uhr geöffnet hat. Wenn man um 19 Uhr gegessen hat, dann noch zaubert, meldet sich gewöhnlich der kleine Hunger nochmal. Alles in allem war der Urlaub in dem eher kleinen Hotel ok. Für uns ein reiner Badeurlaub. Wer shoppen möchte sollte das im Ort selbst tun. Es wird nicht mehr groß gehandelt, aber die Preise sind meist in Ordnung. Der einzige Laden den ich in Side wirklich wärmstens empfehlen kann ist Polotix. Mit dem Mann (spricht Deutsch) kann man auf vernünftiger Basis korrekt handeln und die Qualität ist spitze.
