Let me first tell you a few things about myself.
I had some relatives visiting and so we decided to check out the relatively new resort The Strand and have a meal at Del Mar. Of course I'm going to hate the resort but a bit of fine dining is always nice.
From the moment we pulled into the parking lot I was struck but what a beautiful job they'd done. The Strand is very tastefully done (even the parking lot). We got a very friendly welcome as we entered a beautiful reception area before walking through some astoundingly handsome grounds to the restaurant. Before sitting down to eat I had a quick walk around and was repeatedly struck by how mellow, tasteful and beautiful the place was. If the exterior and grounds is anything to go by and if our welcome at reception is anything to go by I imagine staying here would be a very pleasant experience indeed. I would have no problem recommending The Strand to anyone, and I am astounded to hear myself saying that about a modern development on Providenciales.
The Del Mar restaurant however is another thing entirely. There were six of us. One was a vegan who was satisfied with their salad (though questioned the size of and insane quantity of the croutons that came in it, too big and way too many), one was too drunk to care having been at the bar for some time before the rest of us arrived and then myself and three others all of whom ended up hugely disappointed and ended up boxing up our over priced meals to take home to the dogs. Something worth noting if you plan on eating there is the total lack of vegetables that don't come with your over priced meal. The fact that there is a list of sides on the menu should have been an indication that what we ordered was not coming with vegetables, but you live and learn. I ordered the wagyu beef. I'll admit I like my beef a little more cooked than some but this was still alive and kicking on the plate. It came in strips under which hid a slice of onion. The slice of onion was the entirety of vegetables on the plate. My wife had the chicken which came with half a corn cob. Seeing my distress at my own meal she offered me one of her chicken skewers of which it must be said there were plenty. However we both agreed the chicken was undercooked and barely touched it. My mother in law chose the pork tenderloin which incredibly arrived undercooked and at the same time dry. I wonder at the talent needed to achieve that. My father in law chose the spaghetti which looked and tasted like Chef Boyardee.
At around $60 per plate before tax, service charges and tip, I can say with some certainty that I will not be returning or recommending. There are many excellent places to eat on Provo and this is not one of them. The Strand is doing itself a huge disservice with the restaurant and should rethink its chef...
Read moreOur family of 4 had the most wonderful 5 days at The Strand celebrating our daughter's graduation. The location away from Grace Bay made it feel like we had our own private resort. Though there is still a lot of construction taking place on the property, the heart of the resort is complete. The beach that they created was amazing and the water was absolutely gorgeous!! A few other highlights: Villas were awesome!! Unbelievably spacious with the coolest doors overlooking our private plunge pool! Like everything else at The Strand, luxury and comfort is name of the game. From the bathroom designs to the high-end bedding, you get what you pay for here. The DelMar was perfect for our high maintenance family! We all have at least one food allergy, but the staff took great care of us, customizing plates as needed, without sacrificing quality. Kofi, the food and bev mgr, met with us each day to talk about our options. The variety, flavors, and presentation of dishes at breakfast, lunch, and dinner made each meal enjoyable. Go on a chartered snorkeling adventure. We were blessed to have Captain JD with The Strand boat for a half day. Free swimming with JoJo the Dolphin was certainly the highlight of our trip! The staff is what we'll remember most about The Strand. The "Premium Concierge Team" was attentive and responsive, but extremely personable. From pre-arrival requests (grocery delivery and a celebratory cake for our first dinner) to the simple, but over-the-top gestures (Rose filled our water bottles daily and made me coffee every morning), is what set this place apart. Additionally, Windy at the bar (great cocktails and personality), Dolph and Wendy on the beach (set us up daily with towels and served us well with food/drinks), and Wixie at DelMar (the sweetest and most kind-hearted member of the staff) made it feel like we were family. JP and his team will do anything to make your stay perfect.
I could go on and on...you get the point.
Only negative thing we experienced: powdered cream packets for the in-room Nespresso machines. Yuck!!! But Justine and the concierge team were only a few steps away to fix us up!
Thanks to all of you that made our stay so wonderful. This couldn't have been a better way to celebrate with our daughter!! Hope to...
Read moreI recently stayed at The Strand in Turks and Caicos, and I can honestly say it was one of the most peaceful vacations Iâve ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything felt peaceful, luxurious, and perfectly curated.
The location is stunningâtucked away on a quiet stretch of Providenciales with the most beautiful, clear turquoise water just steps away. It feels super private, which was exactly what we were looking for. The views from our villa were absolutely breathtakingâwe enjoyed having coffee sitting at the outdoor couch with a view of our private pool and light green colored ocean.
The villa itself was spacious, modern, and beautifully designed. My family stayed in other luxurious resorts at the Providenciales but the architecture of this resort was incomparable. It felt like our own private beachfront home. We loved having a private pool and easy beach access. The attention to detail was amazingâfrom the quality of the furnishings to the layout.
The staff at The Strand were beyond helpful and kind. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, but also gave us plenty of space to relax and enjoy. Our concierge helped us organize everything from taxis to restaurants, kids friendly activities, and various workout sessions. Housekeepers provided small gifts every single day, such as massage oil, room spray, body scrub salt, linen spray, etc.
This isnât your typical resortâitâs more peaceful, and tranquil, more personal, and truly luxurious. The beach was nearly empty, with only one or two other families passing through briefly during the day. The public pool was also used exclusively by our family. Whether youâre looking to unwind, explore the island, or even just work remotely in a dream location, this place checks every box.
Highly recommend The Strand if youâre heading to Providenciales, Tucks and Caicos. Canât...
