Read moreI have stayed at Le Bougainviller many times (as I need to travel to Uganda for business on a regular basis) and I find the hotel just delightful. My room on this stay was particularly special - a lovely duplex with a gorgeous carved wooden daybed, a small kitchen and then the lovely private patio outside. The grounds are just lovely and it's easy to forget you're in downtown Kampala. I'll note that I personally vastly prefer the rooms in the old wing (same side of the road as reception) - they're much more quaint, large and unique, slate floors, stained glass bathroom door (featuring a cockatoo) and lots of lovely little touches. The rooms in the "new wing" on the other side of the street (where the restaurant is) are certainly fine, but generally not nearly as special. The bigger problem with the new wing is that it's noisier and some rooms overlook a large field where there are outdoor church services, so it can get noisy there. ||||The breakfast is really great (fresh fruit, fruit juice, eggs, bacon (if you want) big chunks of french bread, coffee, etc... not the standard paltry buffet you find at many African hotels. The only thing I'd slightly complain about is the hotel restaurant, as the menu is super limited (basically, you can get steak, fish or pasta prepared a few different ways---all in heavy sauces-- but that's about it)., and they never change the menu. So, unless you're REALLY hungry or too lazy to go elsewhere, I don't eat there. Would be great if they offered salads, some appetizers/small plates or something else for those of us not into eating a huge...
Read moreWhat a let down. I selected Bougainviller because A few years ago I enjoyed a delicious dinner there with colleagues in the restaurant, which had great ambience. Checked in only to find out the restaurant and wine bar were closed for the month. This was not indicated on the website, which continues to advertise a restaurant and bar; not was it communicated to me in email correspondence before I arrived. Their solution: I should go to a shopping mall across a busy, anxiety-producing street for my dinners.||||I asked for a discount based on the nonexistent restaurant. They refused.||||Other issues: the hotel is on two sides of a street, so you have to cross for breakfast or to use the gym (which consists of two machines), pool (a plunge pool - not for swimming laps), sauna (which was nice). My room had very little natural light. Cleaners opened my door without knocking.||||Won’t be...
