I stayed in this hotel for 10 days in October. I was chosen specifically for its location and value - which it provided. I stayed in a suite, which was quite large for 50CDN/35USD per night.||As one other reviewer pointed out, there is a large park - the hotel is 2 blocks away but it is quite near. ||When I arrived there was one lady speaking English. Checkin was easy and quick. I was given coupons for breakfast (more on that later). It was Friday night.||There are a coupe of markets nearby and several restaurants within a short walk. ||Lets start with the worst - breakfast. Saturday morning I went to find a busy restaurant with a tasty breakfast and plenty of food. I was definitely not a traditional breakfast from western Europe or North America- more like lunch for me. I went back Sunday and it was much smaller, less food. Monday I skipped. Tuesday I went and several items (the ones I wanted) were already gone, halfway through the breakfast. There was no sign they were going to be restocked, so I had a tea and left to the front desk to ask why? I was told to go back but at this point no longer had any interest. I went back again Thursday and this were worse again - only one bowl of beet salad left the pasta/rice choices looked dead from several hours. There was never any English speaking staff at breakfast.||||The main lobby is clean but old and dated. There are (at least) 2 elevators to the seven floors of rooms.||Entering my room it was cold the first night - it was 5C/42F outside and the heat was off. ||||There was a small entryway with a large fridge inside the door. Next was a door to the very nice nice "cleaning" room with deep tub, shower, sink and bidet. The bathroom was updated nicely in the last few years. Its unfortunate there was no hot water - only warm water. disappointing after being awake for 30 hours.||||The next door was too the toilet which had another sink - also recently upgraded.||I entered the third door which had a L shaped sofa and a small chair - side by side in Ukraine fashion. There were a few pieces of furniture and a small TV with plenty of channels - in Russian only - NO English channels. The TV did not allow to select original language of some programming. The room was bright with large windows - the highlight of the suite. ||After 2 days I found the kettle and cups/saucers, but no (highly needed) iron.||||Through the living room was cosy bedroom. another large window (with only sheer drapes) some decent furniture and possibly the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. The bed moved and creaked with every movement and I don't have to tell you a couple having fun would wake up the entire city. The pillows were very nice (better than many european hotels I stayed in recently) and there were extra (uncovered) duvets and pillows.||The first night I slept on the more comfortable sofa. ||The second day the heat came on and the room was more comfortable.||||Overall the hotel is clean and quiet. there is little traffic noise at night (my room is on the back). The Wifi was fairly fast (when normally working) allowing fast downloads to make up for the lack...
Read moreThe hotel is situated in a huge old park with 300-years oaks, ponds with ducks and squirrels waiting for you to feed them - perfect for long walks. Though it's not in the centre, there is no trouble in walking 5 minutes to the subway, so you'll be on the main city square in 15 minutes. ||||Hotel rooms are small, but have everything necessary except, perhaps, iron. There is a nice TV with english-speaking channels and wi-fi is ok as well. Bathroom is enough in size and has nice big mirror, but the hairdryer can be an unpleasant surprise, as it is mounted to the wall and not comfortable to use - you need to push the button all the time for it to blow.||||Room service and restaurant service is fluent, personnel is friendly and willing to help. However, the restaurant cuisine is much better if you decide to have a dinner here, while the breakfast is very simple and the situation when something is missing and you have to wait for some bread or butter to appear on the food line again is usual. Still, hot sausages are great and vegetables are fresh and nice, so you won't stay hungry for sure.||||Overall impression of this place is definitely positive. This is surely not a pompous 5-star, but it has its own character and soul, so if you look for a place to relax with not much people around (and no kids, thanks god!) - that would be perfect for a small...
Read moreFor me important was a location, very close to my friends and 10 min by foot from the subway. The hotel is a soviet union style but they try their best to renovate it. Lobby is fine and staff was very friendly and supportive. Room was also very good (no safe but TV, WiFi, furniture and bathroom with all staff you need was fine). Some rooms have no private bathroom so just be carefull when booking. What was a real disaster is a corridor. It is soooo long that you don't feel good :) You can hear your neighbours if you don't have a corner room at the end of the corridor. It was nice to have a balcony for fresh air (when your windows are not from the main street side). This hotel is fine if you spend only nights there, location is fine for you and you want to save some money. My recommendation is to pay just for 1 night on arrival and next day decide if you stay there or live it (its fine...
