I visited Fujairah / Al Aqah in July/August and stayed for 13 nights at Miramar Al Aqah.
Hotel: The Hotel looks beautiful and has the typical arabic building style. Awesome! The rooms were clean and had all the important things you need. Clean service was everyday done and everything allright. What we did not like was the very very cold temperatures in the hotel. Outside it was 40 Celsius and inside maybe 10-15 Celsius. We got sick from these temperatures.
Location: Al Aqah is in the Northern part of Fujairah and it is in the middle of nowhere. The next "City" is Dibba (15mins by Taxi). There are only 2 Stores Lulu Supermarket and Nawras Market. The next bigger City is Fujairah which is 1 hour away by car. This Hotel is ideal when you just want to relax at the beach.
Transport: The Hotel has weekly shuttle buses to Fujairah and Dubai Mall (2-3 times). During our stay we had a car rented at europcar, which was quite practical. For almost 2 Weeks we payed 600-700 AED at Europcar in Fujairah. We recommend NOT TO RENT A CAR FROM THE HOTEL!! The Prices are extremely expensive. Compare the prices in the internet and you'll find better offers.
Check in: Was very fast and the staff did his best. After we came late in the evening, the staff had prepared a little lunch extra for us in the room. AMAZING!! THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR GUESTS!! We also got a better room that fitted us better very quick.
Restaurant & Food: The Food was during my stay ok, but you dont have too much choice in the offered buffet (compared to other 5 Star Hotels in UAE). Arabic Nights were the best!! Breakfast is everyday the same. Mexican Night, was very bad. i suggest the Hotel Management: Keep the original arabic Food like Emirati, Omani, Yemeni, Lebanon, Morokkan etc. This is more authentic than something mexican, french, german waste food. Music in Restaurant was extremly annoying!! its like Super Mario Music everyday. I would love to hear something arabic: My suggestion: The Band Le Trio Joubran has some light chill arabic music. This fits better in your hotel.
Beach & Sea The Beach is very clean, long and well maintained from the staff. I didnt really like the sun loungers, because they did not really were comfortable. The Sea is amazing!! Crystal clear water, perfect for diving, snorkeling etc. i had a lot of fun. But be careful: Compared to the coast in Dubai/Ajman/Sharjah/RAK are much more waves! Sometimes quite strong!
Hotel Facilities: The Sea temperature is in Juli/August quite high (30 Celsius). But the big Pool in the Hotel cools you up. The temperature is refreshing and perfect. Beach Volleyball and other activities happened every day. Very nice!
Water Activites: We booked one day Parasailing which was a lot of fun. But we payed 500 AED for 10 Minutes Parasailing. There are plenty of activities you can do like kayak, parasailing, jetski etc. BUT: The prices are wayyyy toooo high!
Hotel Lounge Shisha There were 2 Lounges, one inside and the other was outside. Shishas outside were very good and also the cocktails! Big up and respect to YASSIN who everday worked hard but always had a smile and a lovely character. Hotel Miramar needs more employees like YASSIN'S character!
Massage & Spa There was a Jacuzzi, Sauna and a Massage Station. We did the massages 2 times. I recommend the Thai Massages, which are awesome! Prices are also here much more expensive than in the City, but you have to deal hard with the people.
Hotel Employees First Man is Yassin with his amazing hard work and nice character. Also the people at reception and Car Service were always friendly and helpful.
Checkout At the end we had to pay a discount price of 200 AED because we used the room for 6 hours. In my opinion this is NOT MY PROBLEM! The Hotel should find a better solution for checkout problems. (We were not the only guests)
Last words Nice Hotel but too far from "civilization" Strategy of German/Austrian Management: Achieve more money than last year is more important than guest satisfaction. Prices: are not cheap, i would rather go to...
Read moreA Birthday Celebration That Fell Short
I had high hopes for celebrating my birthday in style, but sadly, the experience fell far below expectations, leaving me with a mix of fleeting highlights and lasting disappointment.
The Good
• Exceptional Diving Center: The diving center (not part of the hotel) was excellent, offering professional and memorable experiences. • In-Room Lobster Dinner: The lobster dinner was delicious and easily the highlight of the trip.
The Disappointing
From the moment we arrived, the service was underwhelming. Past visits during low season were marked by warm, thoughtful welcomes. This time, it felt indifferent.
Arrival Experience
We arrived early as my partner had a diving course, and I was invited to use the beach while waiting for our room. Just a note if you book a pricey ocean-view room that included perks like butler service and dining discounts, these benefits don’t activate until check-in. As a result, you are treated like an outside visitor until then.
In previous stays, complimentary drinks and water were offered at arrival. This time, there was nothing. Worse, the beach was overcrowded, and by 8 a.m., finding a sunbed was impossible.
The Room
Once our room was ready, we were upgraded to an Al Bawadi Suite. While spacious, it lacked the ocean view I had eagerly anticipated. The terrace was surrounded by high brick walls, so enjoying any view meant standing up. In the living room, the only window with a view was obstructed by a chair, which I had to move to catch a glimpse outside.
The bedroom was beautiful but with tiny windows that made it dark and far less inviting than the lower-category rooms we’ve previously enjoyed. In hindsight, I should have requested a change immediately—a missed opportunity on my part.
Dining Mishaps
For lunch, i dined at the cantina. As an Italian, my expectations were modest, and the food was acceptable. However, the 20% discount I was finally entitled was forgotten and not applied to the bill.
Dinner reservations at the bar and grill—a romantic evening by the beach—could not happen due to a private event forcing us to pivot to an in-room dining option, after all we had a beautiful terrace with limited sea view.
While the birthday setup in the room, complete with balloons and a cake, was a thoughtful touch, small but important details were overlooked. For example, the table for dinner was poorly prepared: flameless candles with dead batteries, missing plates. We even had to start eating with cake plates as the dinner plates were forgotten, and the food was getting cold. The lobster despite cold was delicious!
Breakfast was included with the suite, which was fortunate as the buffet in the main dining area is lackluster, resembling a 2-star hostel in terms of ambiance and quality.
The spa experience, usually a highlight, was another letdown. While I had a fantastic Moroccan treatment during my last visit, this time, I opted for a hot oil massage. Instead of leaving relaxed, I left in pain—far from the rejuvenating experience I had hoped for.
And finally at check out they chased us to pay for the bottle of Evian from the room.
Just a note it is next to the other bottles with a note that water is complementary. Just don’t make the silly mistake like us. Wrong bottle!
Final Thoughts
Though there were fleeting moments of enjoyment—the excellent diving center and the memorable lobster dinner—the overall experience fell woefully short of the 5-star standard I expect. I stayed in hotels next door for a 1/5 of the price and had far better experience. The staff is not trained for a 5 stars service. Our friends who stayed with us previously refused to stay again as for them the service was disappointing last time .. we gave it one last try.. more because the diving centre is really great but will definitely not stay here again or recommend anyone to stay.
If you book this hotel expecting a 5 stars service.. expect a very low service...
Read moreMe and my wife spent 8 days at this resort for our honeymoon as a way to relax after having run through Dubai 6 days before.
We arrived at the hotel and were instantly greeted by the hotel staff who took care of our luggage gave us some fresh towels and a welcome drink while we checked in.
The room we got was very nice and spacious and the bathroom with a bathtub is always nice (tho we did needed to get it checked because for some odd reason water was leaking out of the tub somewhere but the hotel quickly fixed this)
I will say that slowly the rooms are starting to feel a little dated and i would suggest some renovations or restyling in the near future but all in all its still very satisfactory.
We booked the Ultra All inclusive options so we could enjoy cocktails and a la carte restaurants too. In general you get everything you need with this...but i feel that ultra all inclusive doesnt really feel all that Ultra seeing as by the beach bar (restaurant) food is not included and there the drinks cost extra after sunset, when i book ultra inclusive and the added costs that it brings over normal all inclusive (which is alot of extra money) i do expect to have everything included...to me this feels like a very greedy action by the management. Also long drinks are not included such as Long Island Iced Tea ... again these come with extra payment...so once again i feel Ultra All inclusive does not live up to its name, is it better than normal all inclusive ....yes .....but is it really ultra ? No.
The pool is really nice and very large , there are plenty of sunbeds everywhere by the pool and by the beach so you dont need to wake up at 7 am to hog a bed because there is plenty of room anyway.
The animation team is nice and friendly and not too pushy they invite you to join their activities without nagging you if you dont feel like it, especially the young man from Kenya , really felt like he put 10/10 into his job.
The a la carte restaurants included in the ultra all inclusive both have great food and large portions so you dont go away feeling hungry , i personally especially enjoyed the Italian themed a la cart restaurant because the staff there were more than perfect and really made me feel comfortable.
The breakfast , lunch and dinner buffets are all served in the same place and there is a huge amount of food to choose from and its all very tasty and varied, they really change it up too to advoid the food from becoming repetetive.
Sadly tho the hotel disco is still closed even tho all Covid restrictions have been lifted but perhaps its still too early ? who knows but i would have preffered if it was open seeing as in the evening there isnt too much to do in the hotel, they have some live music by the hotel loby bar on the outdoor terrace but it was alot of Russian songs , now i dont mind Russians at all but the music is not for my taste.
Talking about Russians , the hotel was 90% full of Russians, i expected some difficulties due to stereotypes but i was proven totally wrong , they were all very nice and civil guests, other than the language barrier there were no problems with them at all.
Now the one thing that sadly did make a huge problems for us in this vacation was oil, yes oil the beach was constantly under torment of oil , aparantly some oil companies dump their waste product in the sea and this ends up in the water and on the shore of all the hotels and resorts in this area, i understand this is in no way shape or form the fault of the hotel but had we known this is a problem that can happen there we would not have come here because we did not spend any time at the beach...
