Warning FOR THOSE LOOKING TO HAVE Drink, ie. Alcohol, THE PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS! AS AN EXAMPLE, PINT OF HEINEKEN IS ROUGHLY £5 Only three choices of drafts behind the bar.
Where to begin... The wedding party of roughly 10+/- arrived the night before and stayed the night.
When checking-in there were no staff available or insight for help, at the bar, restaurant or around the area so we had to check-in on Ipads and just hang around waiting for staff to give out our room cards. Members of staff were very helpful when they did arrive.
Room was meh, it's a roof over your head with a bed and an ensuite.
Food is pretty much 'pub grub' pizza, burgers, fish n chips, fries... Etc. We got checked in, orded food (about 10persons) at different times. People didn't receive their order even when ordered together. Suggested to write names of people on food orders which they did. Which the idea went out of the window when it did arrive.
Ordered the burger, patty was massive had to dislocate my jaw to be able to eat it. Fries were incredibly soggy, so much so that you could squeeze the oil out. They looked more like the late night kebab place fries.
On the day of the wedding, staff didn't bother to put out a sign outside for the wedding when asked to do before the wedding.
We asked for the venue to put on the AC beforehand as it was absolutely roasting the night before around the hotel in general. The suite was slightly warm. Then... We went to the conservatory for drinks. It was absolutely boiling inside for a cloudy, 17degree August! They had the radiators on at 27degreesC!
The group went inside for the reception, nice layout between each table, if I had to be critical, maybe a little tight around the entry/exit leading from the hall to the conservatory/bar area. AC was on inside.
Food:
Starter was tomato soup which was very nice with warm rolls. (could be a little critical that water jugs weren't available when we entered the room but ofc it's a very, very small critique)
Main was carvery, the meats turkey, beef was tough and very dry. Roast potatoes were soggy, pigs in blankets, carrots, green beans were good.
Pudding I ordered was sticky toffee pudding which was more like something served as school dinners. Very cold in the middle, sloppy/water like custard. (I was on the top table so was served first. Didn't complain as it would have taken forever to get a member of staffs attention and to get one back) I'm sure if I did that the staff would have been very understanding and helpful.
Drinks were served right, bucksfizz could have been cooler. (sounds ridiculous, I know but being in a very warm room...)
Evening dance/do was great. No problems there, just had a great night.
Breakfast....
Nobody was in the room to check if we had paid for breakfast.
Good selection, help yourself full English and continental. Pretty much what you'd expect.
However, Hash browns were soggy, sausages were incredibly dense and not enjoyable. Apple and Orange are really watered down probably from concentrate...
Pastries, Bacon, beans and eggs were good though.
If you've read all of the above and got to end. Thank you for reading :)
If there was a zero stars, I would give it that. But however the staff I guess made...
Read moreWe headed here for a christmas time visit to family who live nearby. We had text messages before we arrived written to emphasise a yorkshire dialect. Which was fun and felt friendly. On arrival we were greeted with a computer screen to check in on which was anything but friendly. Anyway a chap came over, i think sensing our dismay and helped us check in. Of note, Car parking is an extra charge. This is stated but not obviously so. We were given a twin room and a double. The twin room was lovely with fresh wallpaper and looked clean and modern. The double was an accessibility room. I did tell the chap who had checked us in that we didnt require this type of room because i hate to think i prevent others having use of this facilty however it seemed this was our room. Now i work with people who have various disabilities so have a small amount of insight and i would not recommend this as an accessible room to people i know. The corridor door way was the same width as all the other doors and with some electric chairs this would be a struggle. The bathroom door was wider with a folded door however this was difficult to manoeuvre from standing height and would not close completely. The shower has a narrow fold down chair and only an over head shower spray. There was no hand held shower nozzle to control the water yourself. The shower contol was falling apart and the shower gel was placed so high that i struggled to use it as an able bodied person. The toilet seat was very flimsy and i had to secure it on arrival because the back hinge was not in place.
The room was a good size but there was glitter on the floor from previous guests, and lighting was poor. There was only two bedside lights and a standing lamp in the far corner. Emergency call system was in place but was more than 2 metres from the bed so not easily reachable for a night time emergency.
Breakfast on our first morning was a redeeming feature of our stay. This was cooked to order, it was hot and tasty. On our second morning the breakfast was buffet style, the items were cold and not very cooked looking. I could not bring myself to even try the anaemic sausages. I asked if it was possible to have some sausage that looked cooked, i overheard the staff say 'there's always one!' However they did bring along a plate of 6 well cooked sausage which were all eaten by myself and the troops.
In all it was ok but not a recommendation if you need an...
Read moreThe room is huge, the bed is very comfortable. You have everything you need, a chair, desk, a sofa chair. The shower was nice and powerful but in a bath which didn't have a slip prevention mat. This felt unsafe but the bath does seem to have a square of different surface which I think may be helpful to prevent slips. The headboard hits the wall with any small movement, I can't imagine that would be fun for the people trying to sleep in the next room. If the hotel is paying attention to reviews, room 17 needs a better attachment of headboard. You can't fault the comfiness of the bed and I had a great night sleep although the hotel went very quiet around 9-10pm the doors do make a noise along the corridors. The women who served the food were lovely, the guy on reception made sure we were seated at dining as soon as we arrived in the Dining Room. Which had a pleasant atmosphere and well laid out tables. The food was tasty and a choice of three set meals for First, Main and Dessert. My treacle pudding and clotted cream was outstanding. The rest were a first class meal served by attentive staff.
It's not the place you would stay to be near any sites. I came on a coach tour weekend to see Corrie and Emmerdale film sets and this hotel is central to the Motorways between Leeds and Manchester to get to locations quickly. That said there is no noise where I am in the hotel that came from traffic or the motorway. Big plus as it was quiet after 9pm. Whilst the staff fall over themselves trying to right wrongs and learn from the mistakes they are making, if you tell them what's wrong they immediately try to put it right. E.g Luke warm tea/coffee replaced. Hard potatoes/veg will be more manageable afterwards, many people in the party are older and struggling to bite chew with lack of teeth. My room hadn't been refreshed but they offered to rectify immediately. When they get things right without cocking up this place will be brilliant because the young staff...
