Hamble House and Studios — Hotel in Fareham

I am giving the Hamble Retreat two stars because although the property looks amazing, we had such an uncomfortable stay the first night that we left and forfeited (they refused even a partial refund) the cost of the second night. We found it particularly annoying that the photos on the website make the beds in the Studio Apartments appear to be quite large when in fact they are actually 4 foot 6 inch doubles and very uncomfortable. The small, low to the floor, sofa located in the extremely small sitting area was also uncomfortable and located within 4 feet of a very large television making viewing awkward. It is unfortunate that such a potentially lovely apartment was let down by an inferior bed and sofa. The bedroom could accommodate a larger bed so it seems a poor choice and unnecessary to furnish the room with a 4’6” bed for double occupancy. Apparently two rooms do have King size beds but these were reserved. The owner of Hamble Retreat was not at all sympathetic to our complaints but rather reiterated the no refund policy within 7 days of the stay. Truly decedant. The property is set in beautiful gardens, with lovely views over the hamble and Southampton water. The inside is pristinely maintained as well as clean and tidy. Rooms are cleaned every day to a perfect standard was the bathroom. Facilities are fantastic with a lovely swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room. The staff are so friendly and simply cannot do enough to make sure you are completely happy with your stay and if there's anything they can do to help they fall over themselves to do so. This was our second stay at this gem of a place. House,grounds apartments all wonderfully clean. Owners and staff are fantastic friendly and can not do enough for you. Have not used the swimming pool or steam room but they look wonderful (maybe next time when we are not doing so many other things. There is a lounge and games room both look amazing. The breakfast well what can I say, if anyone faults the breakfasts here then I am affraid they must be mad. The choices you have are great. Love this place and will keep returning, WHO...
