We stayed at the Rivers Hotel for two nights while visiting family. This is purely my opinion, but I feel the hotel still has quite a bit of work to do before it’s ready to properly welcome guests.
On arrival, we were greeted by a young man on reception. He explained our room was on the first floor, but unfortunately, the lift was out of order. Carrying luggage upstairs was a struggle (when do women ever travel lightly!).
First impressions of the room were mixed. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where the bedroom door had a letterbox on it – quite unusual! The room itself seemed practical, but the very creaky floors stood out, from the window right through to the bathroom. Small touches were missing, such as a welcome pack with details about Wi-Fi, breakfast, or hotel facilities. We had to go back to reception to ask, but unfortunately I couldn’t understand the young man’s accent and broken English, so we didn’t end up using any of the facilities at all.
During our second day, there seemed to be a party or event happening – balloons were being put up, lots of people around – but again, nothing was communicated to guests. Sadly, this meant children were running and screaming through the building, so we decided to head out for dinner instead. Things were quieter when we returned later that evening.
The bathroom was another disappointment: no extraction fan, and the shower temperature swung between lukewarm and boiling hot. Overall, many of the finishing touches felt incomplete, adding to the sense that the hotel isn’t quite ready for paying guests yet.
That said, the one real positive is the view – absolutely lovely. Car parking, however, was confusing, as it wasn’t clear which spaces were actually for hotel guests.
In summary, the Rivers Hotel has potential, but at the moment it feels unfinished and lacking in polish. With improvements to communication, facilities, and basic amenities, it could become a great place to stay, but for now, it fell short of...

Read moreUtterly horrendous experience. Friends staying here invited me back at the end of the night. I was expecting a hotel with a bar at least. The man who is a key holder, denied me access, as I wasn't a resident. I was in a t shirt, and it was bitterly cold. When my friend challenged the manager, he became belligerent, and assaulted my friend and tried to deny him access to his room - in the middle of the night. I know my friends have informed the police.
I walked 45 minutes in the pitch black, and the manager didn't even have the courtesy to call me a cab after I asked, and only threatened me more with the police. The incident escalated far more than it ever needed to be.
The location isn't central, so if you have any problems at night, you aren't near anywhere central.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. Terrible hosts and poor people skills. And you're running a hotel? I can only surmise, the management are homophobic, as there wasn't any problems for heterosexual guests who came afterwards...
