Rooms were clean and bed was comfy, everything we needed. We got room 26 for our stay which was right next to the entrance door to the floor’s hallway. Everytime someone left/walked in to the corridor, we heard it and left like someone was opening our door, it was this loud. During our stay, we were very lucky to get hot weather outside. But our room was absolutely melting hot, it was hard to stay in it. I asked if there was any fans available and the answer was no. The receptionist also understood our pain, but all she was able to do is to check if the heating is off and to say that it is an old building. I understand no one can turn off the heat outside, but charging £120 for a night and not including a fan is ridiculous, when restaurant and reception area had A/C going full blast. Service at the restaurant was great. We had dinner and breakfast. Staff in a restaurant was ace, food on the other hand wasnt. Chicken tasted like plastic was overcooked. The breakfast lady was doing her best. She was serving the whole restaurant herself and she was so busy, running like a headless chicken. Please give her more staff for breakfast, poor lady was doing laps like a marathon!!! Breakfast was lovely, but because the lady serving it was so busy, she barely had time to top up condimental breakfast table, so we did not get what we would have wanted. Overall, would not dare to stay there again or recommend it to other people. For the price I paid for the night, I definitely felt like I am...
Read moreThe Caledonian Hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was well decorated. We did, however, have a towel with a hole in it, and the water pressure in the shower was adequate. There was no room service. There wasn't even a phone in the room, but for a place to put your head down, it was fine. The walls are also fairly thin, the person in the room next to ours had an alarm that went off at 7am and they'd either left the room and forgotten about it or were very heavy sleepers as it did not stop.
Breakfast was lovely, although haggis was in place of black pudding and lorne sausage (flat sausage) in place of normal link sausage. The menu also suggested there would be more toast available. The wasn't. The breakfast waitress was lovely, very welcoming, and a smile that seemed natural and not forced.
The hotel is set a stones throw from the high Street, not much to offer some charity shops and a few boutiques, and a barber right across from the hotel my husband was able to get a walk in appointment and get his hair cut. Carpark was first come, first serve, though there did seem so be plenty parking not many marked disabled though
Downside, the rooms are all up flights of stairs with no lift. My fault for not asking but something to take into...
Read moreThe staff and management at the Caledonian (affectionately called "The Cally" by locals) were the highlight of our stay. They went above and beyond to ensure the comfort of their guests, and we recognized that they ran everything from the front desk to the restaurant, and all in between. Tireless and hospitable across the board! Bravo!
The hotel itself is modernized, with clean and well decorated rooms. The duvets were heavenly and housekeeping was a good sport at putting up with us occasionally asking for more biscuits. The showers and washrooms are full of new appliances, with fresh towels daily.
The restaurant offers a spacious menu with a large selection of local beer, cider, and wine. Plenty of places to sit. My sister and I ate there once a day and were never disappointed. The prices are reasonable and compare to any other pub/restaurant in the area.
The only minor, minor downside was that the Wi-Fi signal was typically hit and miss. We could not access it much in our bedroom but if we stood in the stairwell, it worked fine.
Overall, we highly recommend the Caledonian Hotel in Leven and promise you...
