Castle Gate Guest House — Hotel in Great Britain

Room was reasonable size and clean. Bed was comfortable. Very small awkwardly shaped, shabby ensuite, mould round selant, overflow and plug. Extractor fan & light in tiny shower cubicle not working. We had to walk sideways to get to the shower, which was pathetic. Loose toilet seat and hot water tap. Ensuite in desperate need of up dating by a professional, not an inept amateur as the present one. Thin towels, very basic toiletries. Off road parking not easy to access, no dropped kerb and very short. We had difficulty getting our very small C1 into the space without it overhanging the pavement. The cars of other residents were overhanging the pavement by several feet inspired being right up to the wall. The landing was dimly lit due to several light bulbs not working. Shelf under mirror in bedrooms loose and wobbly There was no proprietor on site to report theses matters to. In spite of advertising itself as a B&B we were not offered the option of breakfast. We booked this stay through Expedia who used Agoda. Agoda sold us a room that does not exist. On top of that they didn’t provide the lady with any contact details of mine to inform me of the error. She also tried in vain to contact Expedia/Agoda to cancel it.||||When we arrived the lady (Jo I think) was very apologetic even though it wasn’t her fault, she showed me all the emails and activity in her phone from trying to sort this out. ||||Despite it being a busy bank holiday she had managed to book us into another guest house 30secs away for the first night of our stay and personally escorted us there. Well situated just outside the town centre with friendly helpful staff. Limited off street parking which can be blocked by roadside parkers. Suffers the usual constraints of converted older buildings wih add on- suites being a tad small and larger persons may struggle in some. Mattresses would benefit from an upgrade and the upper landing floor is horrendously creaky. Spotlessly clean throughout, room amenities are mixed rather than standardised. (Hanging space in one but not in another). Breakfast was good but limited (no poached eggs) with some menu items unavailable (grapefruit). Heating left on during our stay which made common areas stuffy especially the dining room. No common lounge but does have a small paved garden...
