Having stayed at Mercure Livingston on several occasions (pre-covid) we did not feel it necessary to do any review searching prior to our recent trip however THAT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE!! Had I known we had paid to stay in a dirty, unsafe doss-house for homeless & refugee communities I would definitely found alternative hotel elsewhere. I was staying with my Mother and young daughter and felt extremely scared & intimidated during our entire stay. Gangs of men, smoking and shouting obstructing the main entrance door on our arrival with holdalls full of nuts/bolts/screwdrivers/hammers whilst carrying out mechanical work in the carpark on scrap vehicles and countless bikes which were stacked up at the entrance. Not very welcoming!! Then the receptionist was extremely rude when we tried to check in. No Xmas decorations as we had seen previously on our stays here. Swimming pool closed permanently. Could not get a seat in the restaurant to wait for our room as all tables & chairs were occupied with people who were eating from plastic take-away boxes. Bar not well stocked, even soft drinks sold out but charged us a fortune for what they could sell us. All foyer furniture absolutely filthy and an overwhelming disgusting odour throughout the whole building. Our room was situated on the ground floor and sandwiched between 2 "permanent residents" rooms of which they banged and thumped doors, shouting and congregating in corridors and allowing feral children to run & scream about at all hours of the day and night. Our door handle was tried and thumped on more than one occasion and even during the night. The room was extremely outdated and tired with curtains hanging off rail, holes in the carpet, disgusting stench of food bellowing through the extractor fan in our en-suite bathroom continually. No housekeepers serviced or cleaned our room during our stay, no fresh towels given or bins emptied. The wifi did not work. When we checked out no manager was available onsite to report our concerns and issues to, instead we were given a handwritten name and email address by the receptionist and told to submit complaint if we were not satisfied, which we have and not had any response to. To conclude - ABSOLUTELY AVOID THIS PLACE, even giving this place one star is undeserved - but only because ZERO STAR RATING was not an option on here.
We definitely will not be returning and in future will always do review searching prior to visiting anywhere, even if I have...
Read moreThis hotel deserves a far better rating and Google ranking than it’s given. I booked a large party of people in here for my wedding last weekend most of them staying from the Thursday until Sunday - about 30 of us in total - we were getting married at The Deer Park (a venue that should carry a red light warning these days for people give a wide wide berth!) and this was a great nearby hotel where our guests could comfortably relax and reconnect ahead of the big day. Having read some of the previous reviews I went personally to the hotel to check it out and I’m so glad I did - like many venues of a certain age you could be picky and pick holes here and there but one thing you can’t take away from this hotel is that it is spotless and the staff really care about their guests and making sure that they are comfortable and well looked after. Our room was clean and modern and had everything we could need in it including a great heating system (much needed that weekend as it was blowing a gale the day of the wedding) and lovely toiletries in the bathroom, nespresso machine plus the all important comfy bed etc Nothing was too much trouble for them and they treated each and everyone of our party with the utmost respect and courtesy. Arranging a special wedding eve menu for our large party - delicious and tremendous value so much so that the remaining 15 of us on the Saturday night asked for another similar meal to be arranged and not a problem a new special menu was arranged, arranging space for the hairdressers on the day of the wedding, helping with cabs to and fro, even organising a buffet for our guests return after the wedding at 1am in the morning where they including complimentary bubbly poured out and ready to welcome us back… So helpful and attentive to every little detail our party could want we actually said we wished we d had our actual wedding there - they made a stressful few days comfortable and relaxing for us and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone - thank you to Claire and all the rest of the team - you were...
Read moreBooked and paid for a family room with a double and 2 single beds. We arrived at 10pm and they gave us room key. Went to room and it was wrong room. Went back to reception and they tried to convince me I only booked for 3 people. I showed they my booking confirmation for 4 people and they said they would try find a room. This Went on for 20 minutes and we had to be up for a flight at 4am. They decided they couldn't give us a 4 person room as they have booked them all out. Bearing in mind I booked in July for an October stay they had plenty of warning we were coming. They offered to place my children in a twin room at the other end of the hallway. We ended up taking the room with a double and a single. They refused to put an extra bed in it for us, we were not allowed to have extra bedding to make a bed on the floor. The children ended up sharing the double bed and my partner and I spent a hideous 5 hours in a single bed and got no sleep. The bed itself was absolutely solid and the pillow was lumpy. Even if they hadn't messed up our room I would never ever stay at a mercure hotel ever again due to how cheap, badly decorated, uncomfortable they are. Honestly I would expect to find that sort of decor in my nans house. It was awful and completely ruined our night after travelling from the hebrides and needing to be up early. Would be comfier sleeping in the car. They charged for a 4 person family room and we didn't get it. They offered no refund or anything. Very unhappy and I will be taking my complaint further. Honestly avoid it at all costs, you would be better parking in a lay by and sleeping in the car. The rooms are cheap and...
