We arrived at the hotel on Saturday afternoon. On the evening, I phoned reception complaining about the unacceptable volume of hardcore music being played next door, on 102. I asked for a change of room and the boy from reception said that the hotel was full so I asked for them to stop the loud music but no one came up even to check the sound. So we left the room for dinner while the music was still on.
The same night, the couple from 102 came about 11:30pm banging doors, smashing things, TV loud on, laughing and making noises (drunk). Then, they left for food and came back about 12am with the same attitude. Something happened (we believe something came off the wall) so they phoned a member of the staff to come up. The staff member came to check whatever it was. Then they asked him for a fan while still loud and laughing. But this member of the staff didn’t say anything to keep their volume down. Then he brought up the fun and they had the same attitude. The female guest even offered him a cupcake while shouting from inside the room. This member of the staff didn’t take any consideration on us or the family with two children on the other room. Not long after, we had to knock the door and ask them to put the volume down but they didn’t stop their noises. After that, we could hear how they were verbally abusive toward us, saying “get a f* life” and other rude statements so we decided we will not put our safety at risk with this kind of people. The noises kept going, including laughs, shouts, banging things and drunk behaviour in general. Even the volume of the TV seemed to increase after we asked them to put it down. At this point, my boyfriend wanted to leave the hotel and move to any other one but I refused because we shouldn’t be paying for two hotels. The staff should have resolve our problem. All the behaviour lasted until nearly 5am and then started again at 7:30am when they woke up. The TV volume was kept loud and they even left the room to check out and kept the TV on. I had to ask a staff member to come and switch it off so we could sleep a bit but the day was wasted anyway.
I went down to reception at 7:30am the morning after to complaint about everything that happened that night. The male member of the staff at the reception desk excused their behaviour because of the birthday celebration they were having. I got speechless!! At any point, I was offered an apology or a solution and it was already the second time I was complaining about the same thing. What a lack of empathy and professionalism, unbelievable!!
On top of this, on that afternoon, a member of the staff walked in our room (opening with his key) without previously knocking the door. He apologised although it is not acceptable.
We understand that noises can happen in a hotel but what we can’t understand is that after complaining to the staff members, no one did anything to solve our problem. As a result, we have had a very bad experience and this is unacceptable.
Adding to this, the room has an adjacent door dividing a room from the next one (102-103) (picture attached). None of the pictures when booking through booking.com showed that, neither we were informed that this will happen. If we knew, we will have never booked this hotel. This door doesn’t block any noise at all. Anything from the next room can be heard, and that is why I can give so many details about the noises. This is called “false advertising”, providing misleading information to customers and punishable by The Consumer Protection Law.
This is the worst hotel experience we have had so far in the UK. What was meant to be a relaxing weekend has ended up on a lack of sleep and annoying weekend for us. For sure, you will agree that this is not what you pay for when you book...
Read moreStay away from this place as much as possible!!! I cannot emphasise the absolutely horrendous experience we had there. Firstly, on arrival we were told that the hotel was full and therefore the car park was full (which is something I now see many people have complained about before), the lift wasn't working (since February) and the carpeted stairs and walls were in a disgusting state. We thought the worst had passed until we actually saw our room. Everything was in a disgusting state, from the carpet, to the walls, the curtains and the bathroom. There was no soap in the room (during a pandemic) and although the room was booked for two people, only one set of towels were left on the bed on top of a stained, unclean throw. When we flagged the lack of soap and towels to the reception we were told it would be sorted immediately, however about 30 minutes later we didn't have anything. We left the hotel for a short walk and on our way out we flagged the towel situation to a different member of the team, who said he would leave them in the room. On our arrival back from the walk, the set of towels was waiting for us in the corridor (and still no soap), on the FLOOR, outside our door. The dust and mold in the room basically made my partner sneeze all night and that is something we overheard other people complain about at the reception. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights, but we had to book a different hotel for the second night as the place was basically unusable. No normal human being should be allowed in that hotel, as it is a health hazard. I'm surprised the place is still running as a business. The curtains in both the room as well as the bathroom were dirty and ripped and the bathtub seal was remarkably mouldy. When I went to give back the key to the room I told the girl at the reception that we chose not to stay the second night, but she was completely oblivious to my complaint and basically took the key and thanked me... We don't expect our money back, we just want to spare others of the really bad and disgusting...
Read moreFirst time ever using the OYO Chain of Hotels. I hadn't been to Barrow in over 50 years and my recollection of it is, to say the least, nonexistent. Train journey into Barrow was uneventful, reminded me of a journey from London to Cambridge, yep it rained a bit then.
An easy fifteen minute walk from the station. The OYO Imperial Hotel is opposite the impressive Town Hall or rather it's car park Reception was a breeze but I don't understand filling out forms when you've done all of it online during the booking process, can we just stop this bureaucracy and official "fake" rubbish. My journey to my room was by lift, which beeped, no, it more like squealed a beep after you summoned it! Lazy, I took it to the first floor. The Imperial may well have been a modern and exemplary place to stay when it was first built but frankly it's interior is like a Municipal Office Building that has been renovated into a Hotel. A maze of firedoors and extremely hot corridors. You may ask what do I mean by hot? I mean the radiators were all on full bore, I mean HOT as in the Amazonian Jungle, HOT! I got to the room after navigating my way up and down stairs. Surprise the door was open, I don't mean in an inviting way, the door was open as in not closed or locked. This was to occur the next day after the room service staff had done their cleaning and straightened the bedding. Oh! There was a sachet of body wash on the towels. This wasn't replenished through my stay. There was fittings on the wall of the bathroom for washing products but no bottles of products. The room itself had a standard queen. Wallpaper had torn patches and for art on the walls was two Modigliani prints. The usual tea/coffee paraphernalia, kettle and two mugs. Kettle was temperamental had to be coaxed into action. No hairdryer in the room but you just ask for one at the desk.
I suppose you get what you pay for 3 days discounted by £69 down to approx 40 quid a day. Book it for...
