So Iām actually writing this as Iām laying in bed on my last night here, so that I donāt forget and itās the freshest version of my experience. Whilst I understand itās pretty fluke, the attitude we received can be pretty transferable. ||For a bit of context; we had planned to have a weekend near Carrick Castle, before heading up to the Isle of Skye for the rest of the week. This was supposed to be a pitstop and we really didnāt want to miss out on what Glasgow supposedly had to offer. Because of storm Amy, we had to check out of our accommodation as it became quite dangerous and was extremely stressful, so we ended up booking a Premier Inn here and travelling closer to Glasgow, as we have always trusted Premier Inn. ||The lady who checked us in was absolutely lovely, and really welcoming. We got into the room with no problems, not an issue, the bathroom was a little bit grotty and the handle bar for the shower popped off when I used it, which showed a lot of dirt and rust. Iāve come to realise after this experience that I actually accept that as the standard of Premier Inn, which I realise now isnāt good. ||We were recommended to book a table which we did, and due to the storm we were recommended the earlier the better. This stood true, as when we got into the restaurant it piled up pretty quickly and there was only two members of staff on. There seemed to be an issue with a leak near the coffee machine which occupied one of the staff members for quite awhile and the other one seemed really stressed. I used to manage in hospitality, and I honestly felt so bad for them both, as it was super busy and he seemed really stressed. I am the first person to sympathise with hospitality workers. Food was absolutely fine. ||Went to sleep and everything in the room was absolutely sound. The next day weād been out into Glasgow shopping, and when we got back, there was a younger girl with dark hair at reception and she seemed really nice. A bit later, we went down for dinner again. My partner ordered Caesar salad and I ordered the chilli and tomato pasta with added chicken. I also ordered fries for us to share. We were sat pretty close to the kitchenās pass too. When the food came, my partners salad was put down first and the two girls working both ran the food, and before mine even hit the table, the girl who took our order immediately said āwait thereās no chicken on that, let me get that sorted.ā Iām genuinely the type of person to just accept it, and ask for it to be taken off the bill at the end because I completely get it, but I didnāt even see the meal before she diverted back towards the chef. Iām not sure what was said when she went back to ask for chicken, but I did hear the chef say āunbelievableā which, at the time, I believed was said towards that girl who took our order, as itās pretty clear to me it was missed off when she put the order through. ||The chef on the pass then proceeded to really loudly continue to say āunbelievableā several times, moan really loudly, saying things like āoh I canāt even use that now eitherā at the pasta sat on the pass. I was absolutely fine until one of the girls working went and asked how the chicken was coming on, and he proceeded to moan āunbelievableā several times more saying āwell itās blown up in their face because now theyāve had to wait ages for it.ā Thatās when it clicked with me that I think the girl taking our order told the chef that I had only just asked to order the chicken as our food was brought to the table. I am 100% certain that the chef believed it was my fault. Iām not an anxious girly at all, but the chef was talking so loudly; so clearly knowing I was in ear shot and could hear everything he was saying. Iām 26 and I donāt leave home much, Iām not from Scotland, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I felt so uncomfortable to the pit of my stomach that my appetite completely vanished. My boyfriend went and asked the same girl if we could take our meal to the room to eat because we both just felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome, despite having done absolutely nothing wrong. I would never ever ever dare to let a chef cook me a meal and only then ask to add meat to it once it was served to me. Iāve known the trade 10 years of my life, Iāve seen it all and worked with every manner of chef. Iāve seen the dark side of back of house and have the utmost respect for the trade. I was so upset and frustrated that not only was the chef purposely making me feel uncomfortable but the girl that seemed so lovely had also lied, to essentially save her own back. Again, I understand how hard hospitality can be, but this is not morally acceptable. When my partner asked her about it, she said she would take the chicken off but then ended up taking the whole meal off, which shows me even more that the added chicken was not put on the order in the first place. ||I cried quite a lot when we got back to the room and I didnāt eat my dinner, as I just felt so shocked and frustrated. I am so far from home, in a place I believed I could trust in. We went out for dinner at a nearby Italian which was lovely. But no hotel should make their guests feel like this.||Whilst you can expect the standard Premier Inn experience in terms of the room (whatever that means to you), if you want a quick easy hotel and dinner experience, I would not recommend this at all. I donāt trust in the staff here whatsoever. I feel incredibly uncomfortable and I cannot wait to leave. I donāt think I will ever be staying in Premier Inn ever again and my opinion on it is completely changed. Iād always really trusted in Premier Inn, but this one has changed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you're travelling by vehicle, ignore the location score. This Premier Inn and surrounds are all conducive to you not being on foot. That being said if you are on foot such as arriving by train and lugging a suitcase you need to access via the main carpark from the rear (north east side) off Stirling Road as the main roads don't have footpaths. Reception staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful with my baggage hold and information on things like breakfast etc. The self check-in machines were offline but that was the same for a lot of the other P.I.'s I stayed at. My room faced the carpark and was pretty much the standard fair as with all P.I.'s but I did notice that the sheets in my room and the sofa were not fully clean, or at least not to the standards of clean as other P.I.'s I stayed at during my trip. The sofa was speckled with stains that looked like dried mud or cement at one end, and the bed had something that looked like specks of charcoal had been crushed between the top sheet and the bottom sheet, around the feet area on one side. There wasn't a lot of it and I just avoided those areas, so for me travelling by myself it wasn't an issue, but just making a note of it as I would have brought this up with staff if I had been sharing the room. The actual room itself though and the bathroom were fine. As other have noted the window only opens a slight amount which is good in that no one can just walk past and steal your things, but also limits airflow. Noise is supressed fairly well but I could still hear a crying baby in the next room, even though the sound was travelling by the corridor more than through the walls. The location is quite a ways to walk to central Dumbarton and the waterfront, which is annoying if you just want to pick something small up from Lidl or the St James retail park. You also don't get the quietness of being in a remote location because it's right along a main road and the coffee stops and petrol station have a continuous stream of cars rolling through. You are probably mainly relying on the Malt & Myers Brewers Fayre next door or the Costa Coffee/Starbucks/Subway/Greggs for any nearby food and drink requirements. In short, Costa for coffee and choc cakes. Starbucks for pastries. Typical (in a good way) P.I. buffet breakfast is done at the Brewer's Fayre next door but paid for at reception. I didn't feel the need to pre-purchase and just paid the morning of. I walked to Loch Lomond from the hotel which in hindsight was probably not the best way to get there as there are train and bus alternatives. It's a nice walk back though if you can catch the setting sun...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStayed here for one night on our southbound journey 1-2nd August 2020. We were allocated one of the newer rooms with a nice large walk in shower. The room was of the usual Premier Inn standard, clean, tidy and comfortable. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the āon siteā restaurant. We booked breakfast and were instructed to adhere to the new Covid-19 rules, a one way system and that our order would be brought to our table. We ordered our breakfast and noticed that, unlike other restaurants, the staff were not wearing masks even though they were serving food very close to us. The staff appeared to be somewhat flustered, trying to cope with the volume of customers albeit everyone had already booked and had been allocated a time slot for breakfast. We ate our continental breakfast and awaited our cooked order. When this arrived the food was cold, cold eggs, cold mushrooms etc and unfortunately we were unable to eat it. The family on a neighbouring table had already sent theirs back because it was cold only to have it returned warmer but burned as it would seem that they merely grilled the whole plateful of food. The family refused to eat it and left. We were, unfortunately, time restricted and needed to leave. We could not therefore wait to have a hot breakfast, neither did we wish to consume charcoal as had witnessed on the next table! Obviously Iād have preferred to have taken the matter up with management but Iām not sure that this would have been particularly productive as the female manager had already visited the table near us and explained that they were rushed off their feet. I appreciate that service was busy and mistakes were made but as paying customers we should at least...
