Our experience was quite disappointing, and there are several reasons for this..
First things first the workers there were far from helpful and friendly, though I read reviews saying the opposite, so I'm not sure if it has something to do to us being Muslim Arabs or maybe they were just having a bad day… When I approached the receptionist to ask about the nearest restaurant, she simply referred me to an email they had sent in an uncollaborative manner. The same thing happened when I asked the receptionist to request a taxi to the bus station; we were told to arrange it ourselves, as they do not offer this service. Even after I explained that we did not have a British phone number to call a taxi and that the area does not have Uber service or any other that i know of, they did not assist us. This made it extremely difficult, especially with the adverse weather conditions with our luggage. We ended up dragging our suitcases across their rough farm terrain while they drove by in their golf cart alongside us, literally!!
when I asked the receptionist about the bus station that goes to Glasgow, she gave me the wrong station, which made us barely catch our bus despite leaving early. so the staff's lack of knowledge about the surrounding area was almots disastrous!!
secondly the lodges are located in a very remote area with no amenities nearby, making it quite challenging for foreigners like us who are not familiar with the area. and As foreigners relying on public transportations, we arrived around 1:30 -2 PM, but the check-in time was set for 4 PM, which is later compared to many other hotels and lodges. Despite the lodges being ready, there was no flexibility in allowing us to check in, even though we did tell them before of our need for an early check in. I understand the importance of rules and boundaries, but without a bit of flexibility in some cases —especially in a place that claims to offer a magical, memorable, extraordinary experience—what distinguishes a human from a robot?
The lodges are located 7-10 minutes away from the reception area, and no transportation is provided. This was quite inconvenient, especially during check-out when the weather was windy and rainy. Despite these weather conditions, no assistance was offered to transport us. additionally there was no phon to communicate with the reception from the lodges..
The breakfast was also poor and did not cater to a variety of tastes, offering limited options. Additionally, the lodges were so small that our suitcases were always in the way. and finally In the middle of the night, the outside lights of the lodge were turned off, adding to the discomfort.
and the cherry on top was when they -An hour before check-out- placed cleaning supplies outside our doors, which was very unprofessional and not something you would expect from a place that claims to be luxurious especially at over £400 a night! The funny about it was they kept reminding us with every piece of paper of the check out time which was very Unwelcoming and very cheap, wish they remembered that themselves..
Overall, the experience was not worth the price, and the services provided were far from luxurious, It was a very disappointing end to our...
Read moreA really woeful experience. Ive never had to write a review like this before and am really surprised by the amount of positive reviews there are for this place.
We left one day earlier after our experience staying there. We must say it really was disappointing especially after the price we paid of around £800 for two nights, which is a ridiculous price for the quality of accommodation.
On arrival, we were really put off by the smell of the lodge, it had an awful damp smell which we couldn’t get rid of due to the midgies (obviously not your fault!).
On further inspection we were really surprised by the toilet/shower “tub” which you usually find in a holiday Inn which you would pay £50 a night for not £400(!!!!!), if we have had paid a lot less we wouldn’t have been fussed but for the price, and “luxury” status we were far from pleased.
Touching on the luxury status a bit more there was dirt all in the shoe rack. A lack of amenities like a hand towel, hand wash and as you like to make note you don’t serve food so only providing a microwave is ridiculous.
We used the hot tub the evening we were there, which was pleasant albeit slightly dirty.
When we went to bed we found the pillows covered in bugs (even though we had been conscious of not having the doors open due to midgies) and the mattress had a huge dip in it.
The worst part was during the night. The alarm went off at 1am for quite some time which was a horrible shock at that time, leaving my wife shaking from the noise and volume of it. We didn’t sleep the rest of the night of the thought of it going off again. We even debated getting up and leaving at around 3am.
When we woke up to our breakfast, to find two pieces of bread, stale croissants and yogurts which had a weird texture we were really ready to leave. After now speaking to them on the phone they assured me they were fresh, but on further discussion they are frozen, so not fresh then... And again this is £400 a night and this is what you get, its laughable that they think its acceptable!
We’re usually quite happy with whatever, especially after spending the first 7 days of our honeymoon in a camper van on £20 campsites.
So when we booked with you and thought we were going to get “luxury” seeing as it’s in the name of the lodges and paying a luxury price of nearly £400 a night we were really displeased, especially as this was the last stop of our honeymoon and also meaning we cut our honeymoon short!
A few days after over the phone as compensation they offered 30% off out next stay, you could not pay us to stay there again. Offering no sort of refund even though thats all they had to do so we didnt take this...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights and had been before so knew what to expect. Lovely place & lovely setting. Only reason we had to mark it down a star was room was overall nice & clean but could see the start of wear and tear but the biggest issue was the hot tub. Unfortunately, ours kept cutting off and would lose heat very quickly.. the first night, my partner managed to turn it back on but again cut off shortly after, so we called it a night. The second day it was freezing in the morning (people in the pod next door were in their hottub so we knew it should have still been warm) a member of staff came by to have a look at it.. didn't chap to say why he was there , I just happened to see him walk past the door, and my husband went to speak to him. Turns out they knew this pod (pod11) had issues with the hottub turning off but no one told us.. said a few hottubs had problems, and he didn't know what was wrong with them, but he'd try to fix it so we could use it at night (which was a shame as i would have liked to go in it during the day as it being winter it was so dark and it wasnt the best lighting around the hottub).. Once in the hot tub that night as it seemed to have been working, we weren't even in long before it cut off and within minutes went from 38 degree to 35 before we got out (not the nicest temperaturer considering it was forecast to snow)...second night did feel slightly wasted.. we mentioned this to the staff the next morning and not even a sorry, just said ok and took the key as we checked out. Shame as we had previously loved coming here (this was our 3rd time!) Thankfully we had a itison deal (and was a little cheaper) but this has now put us off booking again as they didn't even warn us this may happen (but they knew they had issues) and now it's a gamble paying that money and not even getting the benefit of...
