This B&B was part of an organized hiking trip on the West Highland Way and by far the worst experience having traveled extensively across the globe. Due to the trip being organized by an agency there was no direct prior communication with the host. Check in is at 4 pm, the sign on the door says so, the same sign says “yes the door bell works”. I arrived after a 15 mile hike in cold, wet weather at 2 pm and tried the doorbell. After a few minutes of not getting a response I thought to try another door on the property (no sign), where a young man had gone in and out, quickly realizing it wasn’t the B&B and closing it. I had thought this was maybe the guest entrance. Then we sat in the rain and cold for nearly two hours before the host Jane let us in. She quickly proceeded with yelling at me for waking her up during her nap when I had rang the doorbell and for opening the door to the private residence. She was so incredibly disrespectful and rude in all my travels/life I’ve never experienced anything like it. If I would’ve known I could easily get a taxi and another place near by I would’ve walked right out. Being so rural it wasn’t an option. After she calmed down she was very nice, but I no longer felt welcome or comfortable for the one night we stayed. It ruined what was supposed to be the first day of an amazing trip.
While waiting in the cold we had tried getting a taxi for a ride to town (20 minute walk was too much after a long day of walking) but there are no taxis or other public transportation.
The bathroom in our spacious bedroom was dirty. The breakfast was good, however the tables had dirt from the breakfast of the previous day on them.
We left on a positive note, Jane ended up being nice and caring in the morning and wanted to ensure we each have what we needed for breakfast. That said I do not recommend...
Read moreI arrived at Shandon Farmhouse after a couple of days in Edinbrugh and was so refreshed to be out in the countryside. Jane greeted us with so much kindness, showing us around the guest quarters and explaining where to meet for breakfast the next day. There is a big lounge room where guests can sit on a plethora of comfy surfaces. You can choose to sit and watch TV, read, have snacks, play games, or just look out the giant windows and just be. All the windows look out to her beautiful family and perfectly curated gardens. So much love is out into this space it makes you feel like you're at home. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The breakfast had an assortment of cold and hot options. I chose the poached egg on toast with a side of sausage. The tea pot was never empty. I highly recommend staying here!!!
Additionally, the instructions beforehand with check-in information and times were clear and informative with guides on where to eat, and how to ensure a table at these places...
