I went to the bakery today and had an absolute awful experience. I was with another woman and we ordered four coffees. Very simple orders and it appeared to be a very big struggle to comprehend 1 oat latte 1 Cappuccino and 2 flat whites. I am lactose intolerant and asked while ordering what sort of oat milk they had as I am allergic to some brands and I was met with the response "the normal kind" with a whole lot of attitude. Throughout our experience I was talked down to and derided by two young women.
One in particular with a nose piercing was incredibly rude and really shouldn't be working with people. It's definitely not her forte! I suspect a learning disabilities which may be highly likely - it could go some ways to explaining the lack of comprehension and rude behaviour - that I can be more forgiving of. I would suggest more support from upper management.
Doing something as simple as ordering a coffee shouldn't leave us feeling upset and baffled by such awful treatment.
I am so lovely and friendly to everyone I meet but I am a black woman and this behaviour does reek of racism.
To top it all off the orders were wrong and very badly made.

Walking into Drymen Bakery & Deli was like entering a culinary purgatory—except less welcoming.
First off, the wait. I aged. I saw my reflection in the glass counter and I swear I had more wrinkles than when I walked in. I ordered a simple sandwich and coffee, and by the time it arrived, I’d already considered switching careers, writing a memoir, and learning Gaelic. It was so slow I started wondering if they were waiting for the wheat to grow before making my bread.
And for what? A soggy, lifeless sandwich and a coffee so weak it could’ve been classified as flavored water. The pastries? I’ve had more flaky conversations with my ex. This bakery could serve as a museum of “What Food Shouldn’t Be.”
The staff looked like they’d lost a bet and were now paying off their karma by pretending to work there. Asking for help felt like interrupting a very boring hostage situation.
If you’re in Drymen, hungry, and tempted—don’t. Lick a rock. At least it won’t waste your afternoon or insult...
Read moreI go out for a cycle every weekend and over years have built up a huge knowledge of the coffee and cake stops in a 50mile radius of Glasgow. This is without doubt the best there is. An amazing selection of cakes, really good coffee, helpful friendly staff and open early for those of us who like to be up and at it. So many places like this that sit on the WHW seem to just phone it in knowing that they'll get the throughput of walkers anyway and so good is good enough. Not this place. They are way way better than good. Worth building your bike ride or your day out around a coffee stop here. You won't be...
