Had dinner here with my family Of 4 yesterday . Menu was great , food tasted good but the service was pretty poor. Running two bars myself I never post bad reviews but when the man in charge seemed to be celebrating that the pub was “dead” it did raise cause for concern. When we first arrived there was a lady who seated us (short dark hair )who took our order & seemed lovely. After her shift finished we counted at least 6 waiting staff all serving at the restaurant side of the bar. No one was greeting customers as they arrived & the staff would stare at in-walkers then debate who would then go greet & seat customers (this happened three times during our visit) My family and I were sat at the table closest to the bar and could over hear staff conversations many of which were unprofessional. We had to ask for the dessert menu ourselves then order ourselves at the bar as the staff were all too engaged with each other’s conversations. When dessert finally arrived we had to clear our table ourselves as the staff didn’t acknowledge that our table needed cleared. There was a lot of waiting around for drinks (frustrating when it’s not busy & you can see 5 staff essentially doing nothing) It took 15 minutes for the staff to bring my 3 year olds forgotten ice cream out, what made it more uncomfortable was two team members debating after 10 minutes of us waiting weather the order had been sent through to the kitchen or not. We were in the Clachan for around 2 hours all in due to the slow and poor service, In that time we seen 6 tables seated , none of which seemed to be receiving good service. The whole set up seemed quite hectic , no clear roles and systems for the staff. Untrained staff standing behind the bar not acknowledging customers needs , communication was terrible. It’s a shame as the food tasted good and the venue is lovely just the customer service needed a...
Read moreThis wee pub located in Drymen is where we recently visited after a jont up Conic Hill. As we had a dog with us we were unable to go into the closer Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha and didn't fancy sitting outside. A quick phone call confirmed dogs are allowed in a separate area at the Clachan which done for us. Hungry and ready for a meal after the walk we ordered two steak pie dinners which were absolutely brilliant in terms of size, taste and value. Before these we both had haggis bon bon starters which again were superb. We asked to order a sausage or two for the dog but a man at the bar, who we later discovered was the owner, offered us a bowl of dog food which was over and above what we expected. Sadly we weren't drinking because we were driving but the selection of beers was excellent and the first place I have seen my personal favourite (Schiehallion) on tap. The place is warm, friendly, has great food, great staff and allows dogs into the bar area, where we ate, but not into the separate restaurant area. This makes it suitable for all I feel. All in all this is a superb bar and restaurant that I would thoroughly recommend to anyone and it has the added bonus of claiming to be the oldest pub...
Read moreWe visited the Clachan on a whim after deciding to explore the local area and am I sure glad we did! The staff were friendly and the service top notch. The place was clean and tidy with a rustic and traditional décor.
I had the steak pie and I can only describe it as true quality. Steak pieces were soft and melted in your mouth with no fatty pieces as are often found in similar pies the gravy was rich & delicious and the pastry was a delicious puff pastry, light and airy. The menu recommended that I partner the dish with a pint of Belhaven Best bitter. I found this a great touch and noticed other food and drink pairings noted also but I'll leave that for you to discover when you visit.
I was so excited to start eating that I neglected to take a picture but you can see the meal somewhat in the picture that my wife took of her Cajun chicken salad. The salad was uniquely dressed with fresh fruits such as melon and strawberries which worked well with the Cajun spices to provide a fresh and earthy taste. Chicken itself was cooked through juicy and succulent another great dish.
If you find yourself in Drymen make time to visit the Clachan Inn. You...
