My partner and I stayed at the Wisteria for two nights, and what a delight they were.
Every memeber of staff we spoke to were exceptionally friendly and thoughtful. We stayed with our springer spaniel and without even asking, provided us with a suitable table for an evening meal in the anticipation that our canine companion may be joing us for supper - the hotel provided a truly personalised experience with their knowledge and memory of not just us, but small things like our room number and breakfast preferences.
The breakfast was delicious with a nice supply of fruit juices and cafetière coffee. We were even allowed to have a second cafetière to have post-breakfast to enjoy an outside coffee in the charming courtyard overlooking the wisteria-covered cottage, lovely to be able to enjoy the area in the unseasonal December sun. The waitress we had on both mornings was incredibly friendly and dare I say, much more upbeat than I probably was at such a time!
We had an evening meal in the adjoining restaurant, 'Hunters', this was a delicious meal with some lovely wines. Well presented with the substance to match. The rear of the restaurant is truly charming, with the features of the original building highlighted. Again, the hostess was incredibly friendly and attentive.
The room was well equipped and nicely decorated, it would appear the rooms are in mid-revamp with just the wardrobe to be updated. The bathroom was well equipped with ablutions and had equally appealing décor - my partner and I were particular fans of the giant mirror (without sounding vain). It was also very nice to see the bin was separated into general waste and recyclable.
During this current time, I would also like to praise the hotel on their adherence to Covid procedures and the extra steps that have been taken - they have the expected hand sanitiser dotted around the communal areas, but the added touch of providing anti-bacterial wipes in the rooms was a very nice touch considering servicing the rooms was understandably by request only.
I could not recommend this hotel enough for visitors of Oakham, a truly...
Read moreThe rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. Although COVID restrictions have been lifted the hotel and staff were conscious of the need to stay safe by providing sanitizer and wipes in the room. We were there for 2 nights and chose to not have the room serviced but was given extra coffee and milk when we asked for it. The room was bright and modern with a huge and really comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels and lovely citrusy shower gel. We were asked to use the car park next door and was given a voucher to display. It was literally next to the hotel so no problem to us. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. The only complaint we have of our stay is the evening meal. My husband had the mixed grill and it looked unappetising and was really over cooked and dry, in fact the full English the next morning was much better. The staff were some of the most professional and friendly I have ever come across wether they worked in the bar, reception or cleaning. All in all a lovely hotel that I would define recommend although would probably not use the...
Read moreWe stayed one night and really recommend it. The hotel is historic with low beams, creaky staircase etc.
The staff and service were excellent. We were tired after day out and then early for booked evening meal but this was no problem for the staff. Thank you.
Family room was clean, bright, well stocked with tea, milk, biscuits. Bed was comfy, with cushions and pillows, 3 chairs, electric fan and folding suitcase stand. My 12 year old had no problem with his bed.
Bathroom & toilet was clean. Stocked with soaps, shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser. Sadly shower water pressure was bad, which was a shame. Also the extractor fan took an age to switch off.
Breakfast was tasty, not the biggest portion but you can ask for extra. There is a bar menu, as the restaurant menu was a bit fancy for us! I recommend the local bottled beers.
Alternatively check out Mill Street, which is about 3 minutes walk from hotel for at least 4 places to eat.
The hotel car park was hard to find. Aim for the Fire Station. In between Sigma Bicycle shop and carpark, look out for narrow road entrance. It's tight...
