Friendly and warm welcome from Steve at reception who was single-handedly running reception and maintenance at the time of check-in.
Spotless, clean room, apparently cleaned by Netty, according to the in-room card.
My room was quiet, although I did overhear other guests in front of me at check-out complaining about noise in the night - so it seems there was sadly one inconsiderate guest in the hotel that night - but it was also clear that the affected guests didn't report it to reception in the night, who also do an hourly floor walk.
As an older Premier Inn you do have creaky stairs and no lift - so try to avoid rooms near the staircase and be aware if you have mobility issues (however, accessible rooms are on ground floor).
The rooms are standard Premier Inn fare: once you seen one, you've seen them all! They seem to have the late 2000s set up with a wooden unit housing the clothes rail and the top shelf that used to accomodate the old 14" CRT TVs, middle shelf for the kettle, bottom for the bin (newer and refurbished Premier Inns have a different style clothes hanging area). Modern flatscreen TV now installed; could do with a retune.
Beefeater adjacent, directly accessed through exclusive entrance on the staircase between ground and 1st floor. This is where breakfast is served. The Beefeater prefers it if guests reserve a table for breakfast. I didn't, but as I went down at 7:30am on a Sunday, it wasn't an issue. Had I gone down an hour later, apparently they would have been full. Worth knowing about. Despite this, Breakfast staff very friendly.
Sainsbury's Local is on the other side of the car park, while Tesco Express is opposite side of road to Premier Inn at the Esso. A couple of takeaways are located the other side of Sainsburys Local, (out of sight, smell and earshot of the hotel) useful for essential supplies and snacks.
Both M18 (J1) and M1 (J33) easily accessible within minutes of the hotel.
The wi-fi didn't work, that's not the fault of staff here, rather Virgin Media, who, will probably take ages to do something about it. Impact was limited, as I had good 4G/5G coverage and lots of mobile data - tends to be better than the courtesy free wi-fi anyway - and that's across all Premier Inns. However, If wi-fi is important to you, you may wish to check...
Read moreWe decided to stay at this hotel as my wife was visiting the local hospital. After 3hrs of travelling up from Kent, we arrived and found that the car park had a £3 per night charge on it, my wife is disabled so we parked in the disabled bays which there were plenty of, but found it strange that we still had to pay (good start). The chap on the front desk was pleasant and helpful which was nice. We were lucky to be allocated a ground floor room which we had not asked for. We checked in and went to our room, the room looked a bit grotty and gave the appearance that it had not been cleaned that well. The walls had squashed bugs on them which had not been wiped down, a hole in the wall like someone had punched it and it had been roughly filled in and painted. The window stills on both sides of the window had peeled paint on them which was laying on the window sill and it also appeared to have not been wiped down for a long time, the heater under the window had paint peeling off it as well and was rusty. The carpet looked like it had not been hoovered and the walls looked like it had been painted sometime in the past and was patchy to say the least. The bathroom was in the same condition as the rest of the room, the bath plug was mouldy and not attached to the bath, the only thing that looked clean was the bed linen. For what I paid I was not expecting it to be the Ritz, but you did not feel clean while staying in the room and it made you remember the experience for all the wrong reasons. I feel that when credit is due I will say it, but also the same for a bad experience. The only good thing I can say is that the chap on the front desk (sorry did not catch his name) was very helpful when trying to sort out the super slow wifi which Premier Inn use. ||Would I stay here again as we have to go another two times to the hospital in the next couple of months..the answer is no. I have found a Green King pub very close to the hospital so will be trying them out. Hopefully the room will be a lot cleaner than Premier Inn Rotherham East. I filled in the survey that they send giving it a bad review and so far have had no reply from Premier Inn (surprise, surprise) had your money now not interest. Please see pictures for...
Read moreReally great location and the staff were absolutely lovely. I think the lady that checked us in was Alana (sorry if I'm wrong but it was similar to that). She was super friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.
2 nights, 2 rooms, 6 adults, 2 children.
Our room was ok, clean but tired (room 14) which seems to be the norm here. Clean but needs a revamp.
We had a family room but it was the smallest we've ever had, basically a standard room with extra beds, one of which required them to move the table. This meant the lamp wasn't plugged in and was broken anyway (presumably during the move about).
Our parents were in room 1 (accessible) which had no hot water in the basin although it did in the shower. There were small red marks (looked like blood) on the wall. The staff were apologetic and offered a room change which was declined as my Mother would not have made it upstairs to other rooms available (no lift).
Instead the walls were cleaned, nothing could be done about the basin water temp on the weekend so one of the days breakfast was refunded instead.
All in all the service was great, the hotel ok and cleanliness ok.
Good amount of parking at...
