I recently stayed at the Premier Inn for a week while on business and, unfortunately, my experience was rather underwhelming.
The Rooms: The rooms were standard Premier Inn, clean but basic. However, several amenities that are now expected as standard in most modern hotels were lacking. There was no bottled water provided in the room, no cups in the bathroom, no USB ports, and, disappointingly, no air conditioning. While the room was clean and tidy, these missing conveniences made the stay less comfortable, especially for a business traveller. The mobile signal in the room was also poor, making it difficult to work efficiently.
Parking: Parking was one of the better aspects of the stay. There was ample parking available, and I had no issues with access or space.
Check-In: I arrived at 12:30 PM, expecting an early check-in, as stated on their website (which claims early check-in is available from 11:00 AM). However, I was informed that my room would not be ready until 1:30 PM and was still charged an additional £10 early check-in fee. This lack of adherence to their advertised times coupled with the fee was both frustrating and unnecessary.
The Cookhouse Restaurant: The prepaid meal deals I opted for in The Cookhouse restaurant were the biggest letdown of my stay. The table service was non-existent, with staff walking past and ignoring guests. I had to get my own drink from the bar, and there seemed to be no attention to customer care whatsoever.
The food was terrible. The dinner menu was extremely limited, and the quality was abysmal – the meals tasted like they had been microwaved and lacked any freshness. Quite frankly, Iceland frozen food would have been a better option. Breakfast was equally disappointing, with a continental option consisting of bread, yoghurt, and rotten fruit. Overall, I would strongly advise against dining at this restaurant, even if you’re desperate.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the hotel itself is passable if all you need is a clean room and decent parking, but the lack of modern amenities, poor customer service, and subpar dining options make it a poor choice overall. I will not be staying at this Premier Inn again, and I would caution others to avoid it, especially...
Read moreWhen visiting Birmingham with kids we find the Premier Inn Oldbury, a great family friendly place to stay. While it is classed as a budget hotel, it does deliver much more. From the moment we entered the carpark we felt secure with the cameras monitoring activity. We found the rooms spacious, nicely decorated, clean, warm and thoughtfully furnished. The good shower pressure and the quick fill bath in the ensuite were a nice start and finish to the day. The kids appreciated the decent sized TV, which was used to play their own xbox games. We did get a good night's sleep. The beds were comfy, the heavy curtains ensured darkness and we couldn't hear any outside noise. The only complaints was the extra price paid for upgraded WiFi, which was poor. It was no different to the free WiFi and the kids were not impressed. Also, the only route we knew to Birmingham City from this hotel was via a dangerous roundabout, with badly designed lanes. We were almost hit by a speeding car who clearly couldn't figure out where he was going!! While the roundabout is outside the control of the Premier Inn Oldbury, it is enough for us to search for a Premier Inn at a safer location. This is a great shame because this hotel teamed up with the next door restaurant, which offered an unlimited delicious, well priced cooked and continental breakfast. Our kids got to eat free. However, we do know that other Premier Inns offer the same service. If we do choose a Premier Inn elsewhere in the West Midlands I hope the staff will be just as helpful. We found the Oldbury staff to be friendly, welcoming and when we needed extra items like towels, nothing was too much trouble for them. To be honest, if we could find a safer route to Birmingham City from this Oldbury hotel, we would come back again. We booked online from our home overseas, well in advance. This resulted in us getting discounted room rates, happy days!! We also found the whole online booking process to be very straightforward. All in all, the Premier Inn Oldbury is hard to beat. We would like to thank the staff for making our Christmas 2016 stay in the UK a happy...
Read moreThe room was smaller than expected.
No bathrobe or slippers provided not sure if this was the practice pre covid as I hadn't stayed at a premier Inn in the past.
Note premier Inns are pretty basic hotels so you really do not get a lot, for example the room we stayed in was facing a forest I wasn't expecting a lot but not a forest facing room.
Drinking water was not provided and when asked they said the tap water is drinkable and I can get a jug of water from the restaurant. I guess it makes sense if you are trying to go plastic free but I'd have wanted the "jug of water" to be in the room when we arrived and a fresh jug be made available daily but maybe it was never part of the service provided by premier Inn.
There was no fridge in the room no biscuit at the tea station either which I was expecting.
No cupboard or reasonable sized wardrobe in the room so we lived out of our suitcases for the 4 nights we spent.
No body lotion or hair conditioner was provided and the shower could do with better pressure.
We didn't ask for daily cleaning but on the day we asked for it, it was nice that they also changed our tea mugs as the stains on the inside of the ones we had used for the past 2 days was building up to a level that bothered me.
The housekeeping staff were always so kind and had a smile on their faces when asked for anything.
I stayed because I was told their bed is amazing in premier Inn but personally that and the few other positive points I enjoyed is not enough to make me book another...
